According to the Guinness Book, Bakken Park in Kampenborg, Denmark is the record holder as the oldest opening in 1583. The park started out with pools and gardens and occasional fireworks. At the time there were several parks of this style but all of the others closed down by the 1700s. The park started as private for the nobility for the first 200 years before opening for the wider public. Bakken is short for Dyrehavsbakken which means "The Animal Park's Hill."
