Who was the first person to win three Oscars for Best Supporting Actor?

The first actor to win three Best Supporting Actor awards was Walter Brennan. Amazingly, he won the three awards within 5 years of each other in 1936, 1938, and 1940. He was nominated again in 1941 but did not win the last year.
