On 7 April 1926, Violet Gibson tried to shoot at Mussolini twice while he was walking among the crowd as part of a parade. Apparently, the first shot grazed his nose and the second shot was a misfire. The angry bystanders almost killed Gibson on the spot but she ended up being arrested. She was deported to Britain and amazingly, the assassination attempt increased Mussolini's popularity. After his nose was bandaged up he continued the parade like nothing happened.
