A surprising number of athletes have competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Technically Gillis Grafstrom is the first to win a gold in a summer and a winter game in 1920 and 1924, however, he won the event for the same sport of figure skating. Apparently, they had figure skating at the Summer Olympics in 1920.

The first one to win gold in both seasons for two different sports is Eddie Eagan who won a gold medal in boxing in 1920 and 1924 and won a gold in Bob Sled in 1932.
