Christian the Lion cost 250 guineas (about 262 pounds in 1969 and about 4,500 pounds in 2024) from Harrod's department store. Apparently, Harrods used to have an exotic animal section where a person could buy a lion!
John Rendall and Anthony Bourke raised Christian for two years before bringing him to Kenya and releasing him in the wild. The men went back to Kenya a few years later to see if Christian would remember them. Not only did Christian remember them, but the two men were also accepted by Christian's two lionesses. Pretty cool stuff. Film footage was shot and became a video documentary.
