The fruit of several of the Ochna plants are arranged in black ball shapes in pairs that resemble Mickey Mouse ears leading to the nickname "Mickey-mouse plants." Also, the red flower that is still present while the fruit is ripe resembles the red trousers and pants that Mickey Mouse wears. Pictures are worth a thousand words in this instance so the second link has a good example of why the name is appropriate.
