In 1904 Aleksandr Loran created the first chemical foam fire extinguisher. He patented the invention and started manufacturing and selling the extinguishers with a company he called Eurica out of St Petersburg. He was inspired to come up with the invention after witnessing how difficult it was to put out oil fires in the community of Baku where he was teaching.
