While tarantula hawks are nectavores, feeding on flowers, the female tarantula hawk uses tarantulas as food for their larvae.

A tarantula hawk ("Pepsis thisbe") is a wasp. They are found in the USA, including the Grand Canyon area. They can reach 2 inches (50 mm) in length.

Using its stinger, the female tarantula hawk can paralyse a tarantula then drag it back to their nest. An egg is laid in the spider's body. The spider is trapped and remains alive for a number of weeks, serving as a food source for the wasp larvae.
