Jukebox musicals use well-known popular songs instead of songs that are created specifically for the musical. A popular example that comes to mind is the musical Mama Mia which features the music from ABBA. The first jukebox musical was "Bubbling Brown Sugar" which opened on Broadway and West End in 1976 featuring artists like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Cab Calloway.
