An amazing statue of a hippo that was created during the middle kingdom of Egypt. As for its name, Captain H. M. Raleigh had a photo of the statue and decided to name the hippo William. However, the name did not stick until Raleigh wrote an article in Punch magazine on March 18, 1931. William's current home is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC where he is the mascot for the museum!
