Joshua Hill was an American adventurer who chose an opportune moment to be elected President of Pitcairn Island. However, due his increasing tyranny he was deposed and exiled in 1838.
Hill was probably the basis for the character Butterworth Stavely in Mark Twain's short story The Great Revolution in Pitcairn.
