All three films are based on short films that were later expanded into full-length feature films.

"District 9" was based on "Alive in Joburg" (2006), a short film by Neill Blomkamp.

"Napoleon Dynamite" was developed from "Peluca" (2002), a short film by Jared Hess.

"Fatal Attraction" was based on "Diversion" (1980), a short film by James Dearden.

Very well done wellenbrecher, yeah, to put it another way, all were remakes of a short film.
