Pi and tau are mathematically related by a simple formula:

Tau = 2 * Pi

In other words, tau is exactly twice the value of pi. Since pi is approximately 3.14159, tau is approximately 6.28318.

This relationship arises because while pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, tau is the ratio of the circumference to its radius. Since the radius is half the diameter, tau is twice pi. Some mathematicians and educators advocate using tau instead of pi, arguing that it simplifies formulas involving circles and rotations.
