Lovejoy's full name has never been revealed, either in the books or on the TV program. Whenever someone calls him 'Mr. Lovejoy' he firmly insists that it's "just Lovejoy." In 'Out to Lunch' his lady love Victoria referred to him as 'Horatio' and some fans think this was really his first name.
The same sort of thing happened with Inspector Morse although his name was revealed by the author eventually, however this has yet to happen with 'Lovejoy'.
