Most sites seem to agree BB stands for "ball bullet," some say "ball bearing."
Websters definition of "BB"
1: a shot pellet 0.18 inch in diameter for use in a shotgun cartridge
2 : a shot pellet 0.175 inch in diameter for use in an air gun
BB is a size of air rifle ammunition.
BB refers to big bore
or is an adaption of the 18th century words Beeman guns
( e.g. I need BBees for my Beeman gun ) and laterly ball bearing.
