The first king about whom there is no question is "the King og Jerusalem" mentioned as one of 31 kings who were beaten in battle by the Israelites in Joshua 32. Some authorities think that Salem in Genesis was another name for Jerusalem, and their king was Malchitzedek. The name Jerusalem, however, is not mentioned even once in the Books of Moses (the Torah). King David was the first Israelite king whose capital was in Jerusalem.
Then it is definately the king of Jerusalem in Joshua. In fact, he even has a name, Anoditzedek (Joshua 10:1: And as Adonitzedek, King of Jerusalem, heard that Joshua had taken the city of Ai and razed it, as he had done to Jericho and their king, and that the people of Gibeon had made peace with Israel... They were very afraid...)
Ah, but my question was 'who was he', and you didn't give me his name, just the fact that he was a king. Also I wasn't interested in later chapters, ie. those after ch. 10 where he is first mentioned.
