Did Italian Fascist greeting "Eia alala" actually mean anything or was it simply an act of ululation to indicate that one was a "good Fascist"? (I'm not sure that my spelling of the greeting is entirely correct).

If infohub.com/Destinations/Europe-&-Russia/Italy/Gardone-Riviera can be relied upon it was a meaningless cry. Gabriele d'Annunzio invented it to replace the traditional Hip! Hip!Hurrah!

My research pointed me to it being a call to a Greek goddess of the war cry, Alala.

Italian poet, journalist and politician Gabriele d'Annunzio is said to have invented not only the cries of "Eia, eia, eia! Alala!" but also the entire ritual of Italian Fascism. Some sources say that the cries were taken from Achilles's cry in the Iliad.
These [rituals] included the balcony address, the Roman salute, the cries of "Eia, eia, eia! Alala!" taken from the Achilles's cry in the Iliad, the dramatic and rhetorical dialogue with the crowd, the use of religious symbols in new secular settings, as well as blackshirted followers.
