Why do Pringles Potato Chips (Crisps) come in long tubular cans instead of bags?

I assume that it's because all the chips are the same shape and it's easier to package them in a tube because of that.

i think it has something to do with the thing about how when pringles started, they were meant to get tennis balls insted of potatoes but they just ended up making potato chips and they had to use the tennis ball containers to pack them in.

Prevents breakage of chips and keeps them fresher, as it is much easier to seal.

It's also a marketing device. The cans are noticeably different than the bags that other "normal" potato chips come in. When Pringles were introduced they were unique and the packaging emphasized that. (The recent introduction of more similar products like Lay's Stax has minimized the impact of that difference though.)
