Construction of Skyline drive began in 1941, but was suspended because of the war until 1947, when it was completed. Today it remains as the longest, privately owned, paved toll road in the United States.
Currently the longest "tollroad" by this we're considering limited access highways as there is no pre-defined handicap... is the Florida Turnpike... If you were to consider the Tri-state Turnpike (Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania) as one system then it would EASILY be the longest but they're owned by separate entities although they remain tolled.
Florida's Turnpike is slight over 300 miles in length and costs around $25 to drive its entire length.
The New York State Thruway Authority, an independent public corporation, was created in 1950 by the New York State Legislature. It oversees the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, the 641-mile superhighway crossing New York State, and the longest toll superhighway system in the United States.
The Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway is one of the longest toll highway systems in the United States. As a user-fee supported system, the Authority receives no State tax dollars, and is paid for by the travelers who use it.
