Sidenote:
Considering the love of the English language for quirky collective nouns, and considering the absence of such a word for alpacas, I propose that henceforth a group of alpacas shall be known as a "spittoon of alpacas", also applicable to llamas, guanakos and vicuñas.

Herd is distinguished from flock, as being chiefly applied to the larger animals. A number of cattle, when driven to market, is called a drove.
