Subject: The Official Share a Story Thread

Posted by: Terry
Date: Aug 24 12

If you are directed here by a FunTrivia challenge, please reply ONLY in this thread for the challenge. Only posts made here will count towards your challenge!

[ And no, you will be DIRECTED to come here. Posting here without having an already issued challenge will not result in anything! Still, you can post a story if you feel like it anyway ;) ]

If sent here, the title says it all. Your challenge is to share a story.

Tell us, briefly, about something funny or interesting that has happened to you recently. Or something sad. Or something scary. Or something exciting. Something funny or strange you saw?

If nothing funny or interesting or scary or exciting has happened, then write us a poem. Or a song. Or tell us a joke.

Or just tell us what you did today. Did all you accomplish was to brush your teeth? Did you fail to even do that? Do share...

Feeling grumpy today? Tell us what irritates you. What TV show can't you stand? What TV show are you watching that you like?

So go ahead, we're listening. The only rules are that you be polite and follow our very simple rules up above.

Tell us a story...

It was British folk musician Martin Carthy who sang and wrote down the lyrics to Scarborough Fair for Paul Simon. It caused a rift between them for a number of years but they later healed the rift.

Yes and very down to earth. He plays small gigs and talks to the fans afterwards.

I have cycled 4,500 miles/7,240 km this year. Not bad for an over the hill fat man.

rustic les. I don't know why you think you're 'over the hill' since you must have managed to get over quite a few hills in your 4,500 miles.

Temperatures here in Michigan should retreat tonight after approaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit Saturday. Rare heat for these parts.

My city has an annual event for people ages 50 and over, the Senior Games. This was my first year of eligibility for it.I tried six events: Bowling, Softball (this had 2 throwing events for distance and accuracy but scores were combined to make one event) Basketball ( free throw shooting and around the world. These were separate events) and the two I did the best in Putt-Putt (or Mini Golf) and Cornhole.I finished 4th in the 50-64 year old group in free throws.2nd in Putt-Putt and 1st in Cornhole. The Cornhole was a great surprise,as I had lost my first game in a double elimination format, which meant I had to win and keep winning to stay in the tournament.I managed to do this, even though a couple of the games were very close, coming down to the last shot both times, but I won one by 1 point and the other by 3 points, that was the final game. All told, not a bad showing for my first time at it. I got a 1st and 2nd place medal,a 4th place ribbon and $10 gift card that came along with the 1st place medal.Had a lot of fun and I look forward to doing it again next year.

It's 4:30 AM here on Monday, July 2. Can you believe it? already halfway through the year. lol I actually didn't leave my apartment all weekend, with the excexception of 5 minutes it took to take out my trash at 11:05 yesterday morning. Today temperature wise, it's supposed to reach 98 degrees, with a heat index of 105. Summer is in true form here now. lol But out of all this, at least we don't have to worry about snow. I hope everyone in FT land will have a wonderful day, and I hope that everyone has a wonderful 4th. take care, John

Yep, sweltering too in Blighty ... where we're rather less used to it.

Still, Wimbledon starts today so it's bound to rain soon.

A friend told me a true story today. He and a friend of his once turned up at a concert Hall to see Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra play at a South Bank venue in London. When they arrived the ticket checker said. I don't think we've sold any other tickets to the gallery, so they went up and realised they were the only ones sitting in the gallery and could sit where they liked. They sat at the front and noticed a piano on stage but wondered where the rest of the orchestra would be placed. After a while a pianist came on but no Simon Rattle and no orchestra. They had advance tickets as his friend was a member of the venue and got the opportunity to buy advance tickets. However these tickets were a year in advance and they had not noticed. They had a very enjoyable evening watching the great pianist and a year later, with the same tickets, they turned up to see Simon Rattle.

I entered the Selco predictor challenge for the world cup which is run in conjunction with a radio sports station here in the U.K.. The first round I did really well in my mini league coming 1st out of 20 but by the end of the 3rd round I was down to 11th. I have not looked since. I play this predictor challenge every year for the Premier League and enjoy the challenge.
