Subject: The Official Share a Story Thread

Posted by: Terry
Date: Aug 24 12

If you are directed here by a FunTrivia challenge, please reply ONLY in this thread for the challenge. Only posts made here will count towards your challenge!

[ And no, you will be DIRECTED to come here. Posting here without having an already issued challenge will not result in anything! Still, you can post a story if you feel like it anyway ;) ]

If sent here, the title says it all. Your challenge is to share a story.

Tell us, briefly, about something funny or interesting that has happened to you recently. Or something sad. Or something scary. Or something exciting. Something funny or strange you saw?

If nothing funny or interesting or scary or exciting has happened, then write us a poem. Or a song. Or tell us a joke.

Or just tell us what you did today. Did all you accomplish was to brush your teeth? Did you fail to even do that? Do share...

Feeling grumpy today? Tell us what irritates you. What TV show can't you stand? What TV show are you watching that you like?

So go ahead, we're listening. The only rules are that you be polite and follow our very simple rules up above.

Tell us a story...

Still hot and steamy here until tomorrow. So glad the neighbours have a pool that is free for us to use.

I’m reading an interesting book by Jon Meacham, The Soul of America: the Battle for our Better Angels. It chronicles our past struggles with division in our politics in the form of nativism and race relations from Reconstruction to the present. It reminds us that we have faced similar trials before and offers wisdom that we may come through the current dark period in our history.

TheQueenly1, how is your first week in the new job going? I have been thinking of you and hope all is well.

Dear lonely-lady, It is very kind of you to think of me, I do appreciate it. I had a great day at work today, my first. I think I am really going to enjoy this job! The bookstore is an extensive one, the people I work with are capable and very nice, the customers are a pleasure to help. Also, the hours, at least so far, are compatible with my first job. There are a lot of things to remember, I spend a lot of time on my feet, and I'm being taught/trained to do some things I haven't done before, but so far, it seems like just the job for me! I've been very fortunate/blessed--it is such a relief to have a job such as this when I was getting so anxious. Thank you, lonely-lady, for your interest and kind posts. I very much hope all is well with you, and that you are blessed with equally good fortune. Take care! Sincerely, TheQueenly1

Advertisements for riders for America's famous Pony Express (1860-1861) supposedly read as follows:

"Wanted: Young, skinny, wiry fellows not over eighteen. Must be expert riders, willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred"

During a recent stay in hospital, items I chose on the daily menu were refused as "not allowable on your diet". In a fit of pique I wrote on the next menu supplied "Sort it out for yourselves"....next meal served contained all the items previously refused......Duh!

Yes Daver. That's hot, when you can't sleep even with a fan and you always feel too hot throughout the day, but now I don't care as England are into the semi-finals of the World Cup. Will it be v Russia or Croatia? We'll find out later this evening.

When you are not used to very high temperatures, then yes 30+ does feel hot!!!
Still, as we are British we are allowed to complain about the weather, it's practically our favourite past time :)

Have recently become part owner of a 2yr old colt. With any luck he will make it to the Breeders Cup.
