I've submitted a quiz on the music of Ghana in hopes that it will be considered for the Bus Ride. :-) Reply #1084. Jul 14 13, 8:58 PM |

With everyone storming through Africa like wildfire, it certainly looks like it is time to renew the list of countries needing quizzes at the top. I've certainly lost track of which ones have been done and which haven't. M Reply #1085. Jul 17 13, 12:05 AM |

I'm waiting to make sure that the new quizzes get suitable rankings before I remove their names from the list. Checking this week's rankings to see if there are any is on my tonight list. If any countries are no longer single-quiz countries, I will ask Kyle to remove them from the header. Reply #1086. Jul 17 13, 2:07 AM |

None of the new batch of quizzes has a high enough ranking, which rather surprises me as regards the two new Guinea-Bissau quizzes - I expected at least one of them to manage a ranking in the top half of the site. Let's hope they improve with some more plays - it's still early days. The following countries have a quiz still waiting to be ranked: Burundi, Cape Verde, Comoros, Gabon, Liberia, Mauritius, Sierra Leone x2. Reply #1087. Jul 17 13, 3:39 AM |

What are the specific requirements for a quiz to qualify as suitable for the Bus Ride? (I know you said top half of the site, but what does that mean in terms of number of ratings and ranking number?) M Reply #1090. Jul 20 13, 4:37 AM |

It has to have at least 20 ratings, so that it gets a ranking. I expect quizzes that will be suitable to rank at 50,000 or higher, but that is not hard and fast. There are quizzes I would consider using that have a lower rank than that, which surprises me when I look at them. Because tourists are really savage in their ratings if they find the quiz too obscure or difficult, I try not to use quizzes that are showing as much harder than average in difficulty, but again that is not a fixed rule - it is one I apply as much to protect the authors as anything else. It really hurta to see your carefully crafted quiz have its ranking plummet when the Bus hits town. Reply #1091. Jul 20 13, 5:07 AM |

I should add that Terry intended a target ranking of 25,000 - quizzes ranked lower than that show up red on the list, for which he set up conditional formatting to show red for low rankings or older quizzes. I tend to ignore the red for age - a good quiz stays a good quiz, but some rotation for variety is also a good thing. Reply #1092. Jul 20 13, 5:09 AM |

I see. My quizzes on Lesotho, Mozambique and Zambia all rank somewhere between 4,000 and 25,000 with over 20 ratings, but all are listed as 'Tough'. My Guinea-Bissau quiz, though, ranks only 75,000 but is listed as 'Average'. Is that a pattern? Sierra Leone and Burundi have 20+ ratings but didn't get ranked yet. Again, though, they are listed as 'Difficult' M Reply #1093. Jul 20 13, 9:54 PM |

Well, I'm surprised about the results of my Mauritius quiz. I thought it was going to do much better with 86% G&Es, but it ended up at 43K. :( Reply #1095. Jul 22 13, 1:43 PM |

Hi Gracious Based on similar quizzes for myself, I am guessing the E component of your G&Es will have been around 10%. Reply #1096. Jul 22 13, 1:54 PM |

It was 17% E & 69% G. Only 35 ratings. Reply #1097. Jul 22 13, 2:01 PM |

My 86% E&G (17%E) with 145 ratings sits at 30k so there are other factors at play. I have an 87% E&G (13%E) which sits at at 32k and a 76% E&G (38%E) wearing sunnies. I used to go by combined E&Gs but I think the E component is the more important as a gauge. The different mixes within each category may have an influence. Reply #1098. Jul 22 13, 2:57 PM |

Hmmm... that's very interesting. I agree that E is more important and that the mix in a category matters, too. It would also seem that for some reason I'm getting a lot of Ps and/or VPs mixed in there, though I'm not sure why. Reply #1099. Jul 22 13, 3:15 PM |
