The film I found scary isn't a 'horror' or 'slasher'. "On The Beach",with Hollywood Icon Gregory Peck (1959),really disturbed me. I saw it in the mid '70's,at the height of the 'cold war'. Still bothers me..... Reply #21. Oct 19 09, 6:01 AM |

I just watched Haunting in Connecticut and it was pretty scary. Supposedly based on yet another true story, it had some good effects and good acting. I'm looking forward to Orphan though, I've read that it's really scary, without the gore. Reply #23. Oct 24 09, 8:25 AM |

The scariest movies I ever saw are 'The Wicker Man' - not that dreadful remake with Nicholas Cage, but the original 1973 version with Edward Woodward - that has one on the edge of one's seat and the denoument will curl your hair; 'The Innocents', (based on Henry James' 'The Turn of the Screw') a 1961 film starring Deborah Kerr and Michael Redgrave that uses lighting, music, atmosphere to terrify the bejabbers out of the audience; Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho', again it's the lighting, the music, the atmosphere, the camera angles that create the flesh-creeping feeling - even though there is that nasty stabbing scene, which is the only overt violence in the whole film. I find such 'horror' films like the Texas Chain saw series, the Omen series, 'The Exorcist' with their graphic violence too over-the-top. Reply #25. Oct 27 09, 5:31 PM |

When I first watched "Halloween" (I was about 12 or so) I made my sister go upstairs with me to get some blankets- she had to go with me, you see, because Michael Myers was up there waiting for me. What makes it even worse is that, although not nearly to that level as Mike, we all have done something similarly stupid at some point when we were younger and dumber. Well, most of us, I'm sure. Part of what makes it so horrific. During most horror movies, I'm not going to yell at the screen when a person is about to enter the wrong door but that movie, oh man, all I could do was say "No! White Noise is one of the scariest films i have seen it spooks me to hear voices of what the guy in the film claims to be his dead wife come from a fuzzy picture televison screen. Also Texas Chainsaw Massacre the orginal that is as creepy as hell especially with that guy with the nutty mask on who makes grunting noises as he drags his victims off to muitalate them. Reply #40.
