Reality TV is not reality TV unless no one knows there is a camera present! Knowing there is a camera VASTLY alters the way a person would normally behave! Most everyone is "playing" to the camera! Reply #1. Jun 27 11, 3:41 PM |

Depends on what you mean by reality. It is definitely not scripted, but how many times do they make people do the same thing over and over. Creative Editing helps too plus there is always the build up. Reply #3. Jul 03 11, 8:52 PM |

I don't know why they still call them reality shows. Most of the "regular" people on these shows have been coached to behave differently than they normally would in order to make so-called "better television". There's a glut of these shows because it's cheaper programming for the networks, while good-quality, unemployed writers still scramble to find work in other fields. Reply #4. Aug 11 11, 3:20 PM |

I like some reality shows such as Big Brother and Survivor, but they are directed and not so much reality. I think my favorite and "only" reality show is Deadliest Catch, you can't fake injury or death! Still miss you Phil! Reply #9. Mar 09 12, 11:18 AM |

It seems more and more shows are pseudo-reality. Shows like "Operation Repo" purport to be reality but, in fact, they are recreations of repossession situations. "Pawn Stars" seems to be another pseudo-reality show. I doubt that they film every single customer who comes in wanting to pawn something. If they have something unique or unusual, they probably cue the person to come in again on-camera with the item. How else could Rick, Corey, et al. know so much history on the items.
