The Newsroom -- brand new series -- showing on HBO (US) & Atlantic HD (Europe)

Anyone watching this?

Verdict?

I liked The West Wing, despite its preachy moments, and this is from the same creator, so it;s just as preachy, and has a lot of the same bustle and backroom scenes.

In the US it's aired 4 epsiodes already but here on this side of the Atlantic we have only seen one so far -- so no spoilers :D

I like Jeff Daniels as the news anchor, but I'm not sure about Emily Mortimer yet, she's annoyed me already.

But it looks exciting & I'm giving it a go!

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Did you get to see more episodes now? The content is always going to be a bit preachy, but I don't mind it. I think they did very well with the casting, as most of them are quite good actors, even the very minor supporting roles. Olivia Munn has surprised me as a decent actor.

I didn't see this reply before -- my post was hanging around so long that I gave up looking. Sorry!

Yes, I've seen the whole thing now. I enjoyed it too! Really looked forward to it each week.

Olivia Munn is my favourite female character and easily wins the acting awards, in my opinion. I didn't know here but I see on wiki that she trained in journalism and interned at Fox - so I guess she has some good insight into her role.

Jeff Daniels has surprised me. I like him.

Yes, sometimes it's almost unbearably preachy, but I forgave it because it was making valid points, even if it was spelling them out far too much. It's no West Wing, which at least attempted to mingle a bit of preaching with some strong characterisation - the Newsroom could have done with some more fleshed out charcacters, I thought.

Looking forward to Season 2 though. The idea to cover real events is just brilliant and adds a great twist to things.

Didn't know that about Munn...that does make her the perfect actor for that role then. Can't disagree with anything you said either. I always looked forward to the next episode.

My favorite actor on the show is Sam Waterston, mainly because I think he's a great actor. He slays it in Newsroom, funny, serious, and a little crazy. I also thought Dev Patel was great in the role he's in.

I had seen some question the pick of Jeff Daniels...but I thought he excelled.
