Is there anyone else as excited for these three films as I am? I'm a massive fan of Tolkien's work and thought Peter Jackson did a really great job of portraying "The Lord of the Rings". I've been following all the news on the films and cannot wait to see it.

Can't wait to see this film! I've always loved the books and I loved the LOTR trilogy. Can't wait to see the magic Mr. Jackson will work with this film! :)

I enjoyed the book immensely but the previews I've seen for the movie were not impressive. I'm still planning to go see it when it's released but I'm not expecting it to be as good as The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I haven't checked up on it for a while...then I look at the Wikipedia page, and go "Ah! It's out!" So "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is finally here! Who's seen it yet?

I finally managed to watch it as it only came out in cinemas today in Aus (well, yesterday since this post was made after midnight). I loved it, I was not disappointed. It did drag a bit at the start, but the next half made up for it big time. It also remained pretty faithful to the book and appendices... Sure there was some deviation, but the things they changed were forgivable (unlike what they did to Faramir). Still prefer the book, of course (as I pretty much always do). That reminds me, I should re-read the book again...

I've now seen it twice, once in 2D and once in 3D. I think 2D is superior, it didn't give me headaches and 3D didn't actually do a lot to the film. I think it looked crisper in 2D as well.

I also had one little gripe about the film- Azog and his role in the film. In the Appendicies, he is killed in the battle (beheaded). He survives in the film and is just one extra unnecessary antagonist. I know they're probably setting it up for the final Battle of Five Armies for him to be the main goblin leader so it is more personal, but there was another way of doing that. Note how Thorin never really was directly effected by the elves and their refusal to help, it was his relatives who came before him that were, and yet he still felt a personal grudge against the elves. They could have done the same with Azog- in the book the orcs were led by Bolg, who was Azog's son. They could have made him feel a grudge the same way Thorin did. Also I didn't like the fight between Thorin and Azog in the woods, ruined a great scene in the book. It was still a great film though, I guess this is like Faramir in the films for me. Sorry if that didn't make sense, it is way to late for me to be posting long, complicated posts.

I saw the new Hobbit movie on Dec. 15th. It's good but so different from the book! A lot of the parts from the book were left out & things were added. I know lots of people who have read the book are disappointed. Part 3 of this film should be interesting! We shall see how that turns out in 1 year!

"The Hobbit" trilogy was pretty good, almost excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed "An Unexpected Journey" and was fascinated by "The Desolation of Smaug", but "The Battle of the Five Armies ' was too short.
