Throughout the entire movie Hudson is just teeming with one liners. This is probably his most iconic line though. He says it right after the combination of the first slaughter of the marines and the drop-ship crashing. He is constantly giving up hope, and this line is just another way of showing that.

When handed a photo of her deceased daughter, Ripley tells Burke that, "I promised to be home for her eleventh birthday." This was a promise Ripley couldn't keep, as she was stranded in hyper-sleep for the past 57 years.
