Set in modern day India, "Swades" is a film that tackles the issues facing the citizens of this nation at grass root level. The India of Swades is colorful, heterogeneous and complex, and it is to this environment that Mohan Bhargava (Shahrukh Khan), a bright young scientist working as project manager in NASA, returns, on a quest to find his childhood nanny. What begins as a simple mission prompted by nostalgia and affection turns into a journey to the heartland of rural India, both literally and metaphorically.
Mohan finds his nanny, Kaveriamma (Kishori Ballal), the symbol to him of motherhood and family, in a village called Charanpur with an admirable young woman Gita (Gayatri Joshi) and her younger brother Chikku (Master Smit Sheth). Old-age caste system dictates profession and status in this village peopled with variety of life. Mohan begins to interact with the Panchayat. Soon, Mohan finally realizes that it is his scientific temperament as well as his understanding of societal complexities that can drive the villagers to participate in a movement to better their lives.


"Yaadon Ki Baaraat" is Nasir Hussain's musical hit of the 1970s which is the debut film of Aamir Khan as a child artiste. Shankar (Dharmendra) and Vijay (Vijay Arora) watch the death of their parents with horror as they are shot in front of their eyes by three masked men. While their brother Ratan (Tariq) is whisked away by their maid-servant, the two manage to get away with the help of the one of the three masked men, Jack (Satyen Kapoo). Unfortunately, the two brother separate. Shankar takes to a life of crime with the assistance of Ismail Batliwala. Vijay is rescued and taken care of by an elderly Mr. Verma, who is employed by a wealthy family. Ratan (Tariq) becomes singer Monto. The police eventually apprehend Jack and he is sentenced to jail for over 15 years. Shankar anxiously awaits his return so that he can extract his revenge. Vijay falls in love with the rich and wealthy Sunita (Zeenat Aman) and impersonates the rich Kunver Singh in order to meet Sunita's approval. Mr. Verma does not approve of this behavior. Sunita eventually comes to know of Vijay's real identity, and has nothing to do with him. In shame, Vijay relocates to the city where he works as a waiter in a hotel. Ironically, Shankar works for the owner of the hotel Shakhaal (Ajit); while Ratan sings in the same hotel as "Monto". None of the three brothers know of the other. Shankar is obsessed with revenge; Vijay hides in shame; while Ratan sings a song which could unite the three brothers. This was the song the family sang during happier times. But things get worse when Shakhaal finds out that Jack is out of prison, and has him killed. Then he abducts Sunita and eventually Vijay and Ratan, and invites Shankar to witness their deaths.

Out of them, 19 were chosen to act in this film. The film is centred around Krishna, a bright-faced, 10 year old discarded by a travelling circus. He is soon drawn into the vortex of Mumbai, the melting pot. He soon aspires to work and save 500 rupees to take to his mother (as a punishment for burning his elder brother's bike). While working as a Chaipau, delivering tea and bread to people at their workplaces, he encounters policemen, prostitutes, "madmen and middle men", drug dealers and patrons of drug and flesh. The film was shot in the dingy streets, railway platforms, brothels and roadside tea-shops. The film stars Shafiq Syed as Krishna. The film won the prestigious Palmes d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film won the National Filmfare Awards for the Best Feature Film in India and for the Best Child Artist (Shafiq Syed). The film was the second film to be nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar and it made the shortlist. It was the second film to do so, after 'Mother India'.

Later, D'Silva (Ifthikar) died during a police raid and the police arrested Vijay (Amitabh) suspecting him to be Don. The rest of the film focused on how Vijay managed to clear his name. Zeenat Aman was the heroine of the movie essaying the role of Roma.
The popularity of the movie resulted in Shah Rukh Khan doing a remake of the movie in 2006, when he re-essayed the role of Don, this time with Priyanka Chopra as Roma.

Directed by his father Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik played a poor singer and a look-alike Non-Resident Indian from New Zealand. Amisha Patel co-starred in this 2000 movie. After the murder of her lover, the singer, by her father (Anupam Kher), she went to New Zealand to forget him and encountered the look-alike. The rest of the movie told how the two avenged the singer's death and while doing so, got close to each other.

During a rainy night, there is a power outage, and she seeks the assistance of a neigbor, Satya, who helps her out. Satya and Vidya become friendly. Things begin to change rapidly for Vidya, as she gets hired by a prominent music director, and develops her relationship with Satya, whom she plans to marry soon. Satya tells her that he will be relocating for employment to Dubai, U.A.E., and will receive a hefty salary, which will assist them get settled after marriage. Her delight with this news turns to horror when the police enter her house to question her about Satya, who according to them, is a hitman in a criminal gang, and who is wanted for 17 homicides, including that of the Commissioner Amod Shukla.

"Border" is the most successful war film from Bollywood directed by J.P.Dutta. It is based on the Battle of Longewala which happened in 1971 between India and Pakistan.
