This was a film that was set in the era before World War 2. It was released theatrically in March of 1984. Most of it was set and filmed near Mendocino California. The film was not profitable for Paramount Pictures. Cage and Penn both are in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". McGovern was not in that movie however. Cage's uncle, Francis Ford Coppola made "One From The Heart" though Cage was not in it. He was in Coppola's "The Cotton Club". McGovern was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting actress role in "Ragtime". The movie "Racing With The Moon" is about three friends before World War 2. The Nicolas Cage character, Nicky, gets his girlfriend pregnant while Penn and McGovern must prepare for their budding relationship to be put on hold by joining the war effort. The movie's problem is that it is forgettable and does not have much of a story besides what I have already described.

In "Gone in Sixty Seconds," Nicolas Cage plays a retired car thief who is forced to steal 50 cars in one night to save his brother's life. The title of the movie refers to the time limit they have to complete the heist. Interestingly, the film features a total of 93 cars, all of which were either destroyed or damaged during filming. The production crew had to purchase multiple versions of each car to ensure they had enough for all the stunts and scenes. Despite mixed reviews, "Gone in Sixty Seconds" was a box office success and has become a cult classic among car enthusiasts.

It mainly starred men but Cage and Frances O'Connor did share some memorable scenes. Sean Young played the ex-girlfriend of Cage in "Fire Birds". It is about helicopter pilots that help to fight against a drug cartel.

"Wild At Heart", "Sonny" and "Vampire's Kiss" all feature many successful character actors however both Shaw and Dunn are in "Snake Eyes". Cage does a terrific performance as Ricky Santoro. The movie is about a political conspiracy gone wrong at a boxing match and Cage is a police chief who is framed.

The 1986 film 'Peggie Sue Got Married' was probably the film that established Nicolas Cage as a leading man. It also included an appearance by another future star of the 1990s, Jim Carrey. I guess Cage decided that he didn't mind riding the coat-tails of his famous uncle, who directed this film. His cousin Sofia, now a director in her own right, also made a cameo appearance.
