E.T. Trivia Questions

Answer: Gertie

Right after E.T. said "Be good", Mary got a phone call from the principal of the school where Elliott attended (for more information on E.T.'s first words, see the "Interesting Info" section for question two). The principal told Mary that Elliott had gotten into trouble and that she had to come pick him up. Mary went to Gertie and told her she had to pick up Elliott, from school, and asked her if she would be alright home alone. Gertie told Mary that E.T. could talk but Mary thought she meant Elliott so she told Gertie that Elliott could talk.

Answer: It was written on a paper

When Elliot is in the classroom, you can see a sketch of E.T., and his name is written on it. Some people say that it was conceived by using the first and last letter in (E)llio(t)'s name.

He could've gotten a higher score, but "they pulled the plug."

Elliott stayed out, on Halloween night, and tried to get the device to work to call for a spaceship to pick up E.T. It appeared as if the device did not work and Elliott told E.T. that he could take care of him and nobody would ever hurt him. In Elliott's next scene, he arrived back home, right as Mary filed a report that he had gone missing. Elliott told Michael that E.T. was all alone, in the forest, and he had to find him. Michael assured Elliott he would locate E.T. and bring him back home. Michael rode his bike, into the forest, and encountered him down by the creek. When he got to E.T. you could clearly see a raccoon, right next to E.T.'s body, since the animal had rings around its eyes. Michael scared the raccoon away and brought E.T. back home.

In my opinion, Gertie had the most believable reaction.

If you look at this scene closely, you will see Tyler is crouching right in front of where ET should be, yet no one sees him.

It also consisted of a record player, an umbrella and a coat hanger, among other things.

As Elliott's teacher lectured about the science plan that day (to dissect frogs), he picked up a drawing of Elliott's (it was a picture of E.T.) but immediately put it back on Elliott's desk. Elliott's teacher told the students to place cotton balls, laced with a sedative, into the jars that had frogs in them so that the students could dissect the frogs. Elliott decided that he did not want to do this so he released his frog, from the jar, and told him to go back to the forest. Other students followed suit and all the frogs leaped out of the classroom within a matter of minutes. Elliott's teacher took him to the principal's office and Elliott was punished.

That's where Elliot last was with E.T. when he was phoning him, but we found a white, dying E.T. in the river. Scary stuff when you're 6 years old.

Elliott decided that he wanted to stay home from school, one day, to interact with E.T. some more and find out more about him. He decided to fake being ill and claimed, to his mom, that he had a fever. Elliott had a thermometer, right beside his bed, and turned on a lamp in his room, and put the thermometer alongside the lamp to make it look like he had a temperature. When Mary checked the thermometer reading, she told Elliott that he was hot. Mary went off to work and kissed Elliott on the forehead. She reminded him that he was not to watch any television while she was gone.

Of course, E.T. isn't much of a speller. He's just a botanist. A magical botanist.

While on set, Spielberg grew homesick and isolated. He talked with Melissa Mathison about a concept for a homesick alien, and they were while on the set of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", the script was written.
