Answer: Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" and will continue to take on that role in the next three movies. She was 20 when filming begin. She has also starred in "Silver Linings Playbook", for which she won an Academy Award, "American Hustle" and "House at the End of the Street". Among others, Shailene Woodley, Abigail Breslin, Isabelle Fuhrman (later cast as Clove), Emily Browning and Emma Roberts also tried out for the role of Katniss.

Answer: The Reaping

Due to a past rebellion against the Capitol, each of the twelve poorer districts of Panem must offer up a boy and girl between the ages of 12-18 to fight to the death, to show that the Capitol is still in control. Each year an officiant brings out two separate bowls, based on gender, which contain the names of every kid in that district. Whoever's name is drawn gets the honor of representing that district in fighting to the death in an arena with other competitors, or tributes. The winner would receive nothing more than fame and wealth.

Caesar Flickerman and Seneca had a discussion about the Hunger Games and what they meant. Seneca, who was in his third year as gamekeeper, believed that in addition to being a reminder of the past, it helped to bring the twelve districts of Panem closer together.
Later in the movie, Caesar and Seneca had another discussion about the current group of tributes. Seneca mentioned that everyone was in store for something special, because there was a volunteer (Katniss Everdeen) in one of the outlying districts (District 12).
Still later, when Caesar's interview with the tributes began, the announcer of his show introduced the interviewer as Caesar Flickerman.

Answer: Primrose Everdeen

Willows Shields was cast to play Primrose 'Prim' Everdeen, Katniss' little sister. Her name is drawn out of the Reaping Ball originally, until Katniss volunteers for her. The 74th Hunger Games is Prim's first time being reaped, and at the very beginning of the film she has a nightmare about her name being drawn.

Katniss is played by Jennifer Lawrence, while Glimmer and Rue are played by Leven Rambin and Amandla Stenberg respectively.

Katniss is certain Primrose won't get picked, since her name has only been put in once. However, this turns out to not be the case. Before Primrose could make it to the stage, Katniss intervenes and declares her desire to take her sister's place. Because Katniss is skilled in the art of hunting, she has a better chance of survival. Before leaving, she warns Primrose to not take any extra food or anything else that would get her name put in more times.

During the reaping, Effie (a resident of the Capitol who came to District 12 to select the names of the two tributes) drew out Primrose's name, even though her name was only put into the drawing once. Katniss believed that Primrose (her sister) was too young and volunteered herself as tribute. According to Effie, this was the first volunteer from District 12.

Foxface, who is played by Jacqueline Emerson, is a Tribute in the Hunger Games from District 5. She is known for being clever and cunning. Foxface makes it to the top 5 before she is killed by eating poisonous berries. Jacqueline Emerson is also a recording artist, and her first single was recorded in 2011.

We first hear about them when Katniss, Peeta, and their mentors are eating dinner at their hotel. The alliance is made of the four tributes from Districts 1 & 2. According to Haymitch, these kids train intensively at a special academy until they're 18, volunteer for the games, and "almost always win". Basically, they dedicate their lives to killing!

Effie, Haymitch, and the two tributes of District 12, Katniss and Peeta, traveled to the Capitol by a train. There was not much transportation in the districts of Panem, but the Capitol was able to send one of its trains. Katniss and Peeta were given their own separate compartments. The Capitol was a long way away, so even with a quick form of transportation like the train, it still took the better part of a day.
During this time, they were given lots of food to eat. Haymitch also gave advice to Katniss and Peeta on how to survive. The idea was to get sponsors, and the way to do that was to get people to like them. Katniss was initially upset that Haymitch seemed so reluctant to give out information.

Answer: Coriolanus Snow

Coriolanus Snow is the President of Panem and is played by Donald Sutherland, who has also appeared in "JFK", "Pride and Prejudice", "Fool's Gold" and "Moby Dick". President Snow is the main antagonist in "The Hunger Games" series, but does not play an important role in the first film.

Haymitch is played by Woody Harrelson. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth plays Peeta and Gale respectively.

Waiting on Katniss to come down from a tree so they can kill her, the Careers and Peeta camp out underneath it. Rue, the girl from District 11, points out a tracker jacker nest nearby and advises Katniss to cut down the branch holding it. Everyone is able to flee the scene, except for Glimmer, the girl from District 1, who ends up getting stung to death.

While on the train to the Capitol, Peeta mentioned to Katniss that the two of them should get help from Haymitch (their mentor), since he won one of the previous Hunger Games (it wasn't specified which one). Haymitch was also said to be the only winner from District 12 to still be alive. It was Haymitch who convinced Seneca to change the rules of the Hunger Games so that two people would win, assuming they came from the same district.

Cinna is Katniss' stylist for the Hunger Games. Lenny Kravtiz portrays this character. Kravitz is not only an actor; he is largely involved in music, as he is also a singer-songwriter, arranger and a number of other professions. Portia, however, is played by Latarsha Rose, and is Peeta's stylist for the Games.

The Careers have a collection of all the supplies and assign a boy to guard it. This attempt fails when Katniss shoots an arrow at a bag of apples, which roll out and set off the explosions. Cato, the male from District 2, gets furious at the boy and breaks his neck, killing him.

Each of the twenty-four tributes gave an interview with Caesar. When Peeta had his interview, Caesar asked him how he found the Capitol. Peeta responded that it was different. When Caesar asked to give an example, Peeta said that the showers were different. Peeta then asked Caesar if he (Peeta) smelled like roses. He even asked Caesar to sniff him. Then, Peeta sniffed Caesar and said that Caesar smelled better. Caesar replied that it was because he lived at the Capitol longer.

Caesar Flickerman, the master of ceremonies and host of interviews in the capitol, is played by Stanley Tucci. Caesar helps Katniss recover from her stage fright, which she experiences during her interview. He also uncovers the truth about Peeta's crush on Katniss.

Claudius Templesmith is the commentator for the Hunger Games, and is played by Toby Jones. Katniss' father is played by Philip Troy Linger and Wes Bentley portrays Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker of the 74th Hunger Games.

The spear is thrown by Marvel, the male tribute from District 1. Katniss manages to dodge it, and shoots one of her arrows at him. Instead, the spear strikes Rue, causing a riot in her district.

When the Hunger Games began, Katniss decided to take a backpack. This was against Haymitch's wishes that she get away from the Cornucopia, since most tributes who tried to grab something ended up dead. A fellow tribute tried to kill Katniss, but Clove (the female tribute from District 2) stabbed him with a knife. Clove then turned her attention to Katniss; however, Katniss was able to block the knife with the backpack. Katniss then ran away from the Cornucopia.

Elizabeth Banks plays Effie Trinket, Katniss and Peeta's escort for the Games. She dislikes bad manners and being late, and is known for her line in the movie: "That is mahogany!" Elizabeth Banks has also appeared in "Pitch Perfect", "The Uninvited", "The Lego Movie" and "Spider-Man".

The careers initially allowed Peeta to join them. The main reason behind this was because Peeta and Katniss were presented to the people of Panem as star-crossed lovers, which meant that he would be able to lead the careers to Katniss. Once Katniss died, there would be no use of having an alliance with Peeta. Their main dislike towards Katniss most likely came from the fact that the judges awarded Katniss an eleven (out of twelve) during training, a score that was higher than the scores for any of the four careers.

Answer: Lucia, Sharon Morris

Lucia is a gamemaker in the 74th Hunger Games, and is played by Sharon Morris. She is not a prominent character, but Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker, tells her to "get a cannon ready" when the careers are hunting down Katniss.

Atala is the Training Centre coach for all the tributes before the Games. She is played by Karan Kendrick.

Katniss promises Peeta that she won't risk her life getting the medicine, but she claims he is getting worse, so she goes for it anyway. On the way, she encounters Clove, the girl from District 2, who ambushes her, pins her to the ground and tries to stab her to death. When she gloats about killing Rue, Thresh, the boy from Rue's district, gets enraged and slams her against the wall of the Cornucopia. For Rue's sake, he spares Katniss' life.

Katniss climbed up a tree to escape the careers. Although they tried to kill her, they were unsuccessful. They decided to wait until Katniss came down from the tree, and that was when they planned to kill her. However, while all the careers were sleeping, Katniss once again met Rue who pointed to tracker jackers. Rue motioned to Katniss to cut the branch with the tracker jackers. This caused the nest to drop and the tracker jackers to get mad enough to start stinging everyone. Glimmer, the female tribute from District 1, got stung and eventually died. Katniss also got stung but she was able to survive, thanks to the help of Rue.

Answer: Jack Quaid and Alexander Ludwig

Marvel (Jack Quaid) is the Tribute from District 1. He kills Rue and, consequently, is killed by Katniss. Jack Quaid has also appeared in "It Don't Come Easy" and "Just 45 Minutes Away from Broadway".

Cato (Alexander Ludwig) is from District 2. He makes it to the top 3, until he is thrown into the pack of wolf mutts and begs Katniss to shoot him. Alexander Ludwig has starred in a number of other movies, including "The Seeker", "Race to Witch Mountain" and "Grown-Ups 2".

Dayo Okeniyi plays Thresh, the male Tribute from District 11 and Rue's District partner.
