This character appears also in the proposal scene, toward the beginning of the film. He is having a dinner date with a student who ends up throwing a drink in his face when he belittles her. When the same thing happens in the later scene, Rose invites him to her table and gives him some advice. Her wisdom and straight talking appeal to him and he asks to kiss her cheek when he drops her off at her home.

After their second evening together, Loretta is seen walking blissfully along the street kicking a flattened tin can; it is clear there is no going through now with her loveless engagement with Johnny.

After telling Loretta to cover up her neck, Rose utters her famous line "Your life is going down the toilet!"

A hilarious moment; at first he slowly and ominously rises to his feet, slams his palm down on the table (as if to say "I am the master here!"), then slowly sits back down and meekly says "Okay."

After leaving her aunt and uncle's deli on the previous day, Loretta stopped at the beauty parlor to get her hair done and at the department store to buy a new dress and shoes to go to the opera. She forgot to deposit the Cappomaggi's bankroll. They noticed that she was acting strangely and became suspicious when they went to the bank and the money wasn't there.
