Often known simply as 'The Metrodome', the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis has been home to the Minnesota Vikings since 1982. In 2009, the official name of the stadium was expanded to 'Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome'. With a seating capacity for football of 64,000, the Metrodome is one of the smallest NFL stadiums (only the Cardinals, Raiders, Colts and Bears have smaller capacities).

After the dissolution of the Newark Tornadoes in 1930, the NFL sold the remnants of that franchise to a group headed by laundry tycoon George Preston Marshall. Marshall and his partners established their new franchise in Boston and nicknamed the team the Braves. A year later the team changed its name to the Redskins, and after the 1936 season the franchise relocated to Washington D.C. Because of the two-year gap in ownership, the NFL does not recognize the Newark Tornadoes as part of the Redskins lineage.

In 1960, the American Football League began play with the Dallas Texans as one of the teams. After two years, this team moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. They were owned by Lamar Hunt and made it to Super Bowl I, where they lost to the powerhouse Green Bay Packers of the National Football League, 35-10. Three years later, the Chiefs made it back to the Super Bowl, and did so as a wildcard team. They first beat the defending champion New York Jets in New York 13-6, and then won in Oakland over the Raiders 17-7. The AFC had finally validated itself by defeating the NFL the year earlier, but the Minnesota Vikings, led by Joe Caap, were still heavily favored in Super Bowl IV over the Chiefs. Kansas City won, however, 23-7 and a merger between the two leagues followed. From that year on, there was only an NFL, and the Super Bowl was played between the winner of the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference.
For many years the Chiefs played in Arrowhead Stadium which was hostile territory for road teams as everyone in the stadium would wear red.

In January of 1989, they lost a divisional playoff game to Cincinatti on the road, 21-13. In January of 2000, they lost an opening home game to the Miami Dolphins, 19-17, which was also Dan Marino's last win. In January of 1984, they won a home playoff game over the rival Denver Broncos 31-7 and then upset the Miami Dolphins 27-20 in Miami before going to Los Angeles to play the Raiders for the AFC Championship. They had beaten L.A. twice that season but the Raiders had still won the division at 12-4. The third time was not a charm as they lost to the Raiders 30-14. The Seahawks moved back to the NFC West in the 2001-2002 season.
Franco Harris played several seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but finished his career in Seattle.
