Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After hearing a clatter, "I" ran to the window. What did I do first?

Answer: Tore open the shutters

After tearing open the shutters, he threw up the sash and admired the fresh snowfall below.
2. In the poem, how many reindeer were pulling the sleigh?

While he was looking out the window, the narrator was astonished to see "a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer", with St. Nick driving.
3. Which reindeer's name did St. Nick call out first?

Answer: Dasher

"He whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; 'Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!" Those are Santa's eight reindeer - and to borrow from another story for another day, he has nine if you count Rudolph.
4. What was St. Nick's nose compared to?

Answer: cherry

His eyes twinkled, his dimples were merry, his cheeks were like roses, his nose was like a cherry, his mouth was like a bow, and his beard was as white as snow.
5. Did St. Nick smoke?

Answer: Yes

He smoked a pipe and the smoke circled his head like a wreath.
6. What was St. Nick dressed in?

Answer: fur

"He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot". I had assumed the white part of the suit was made of fur, but I didn't think the red was!
7. "He spoke not a word but went straight to his work..." What 'work' did St. Nick do?

Answer: fill the stockings

All he did was fill all the stockings before leaving. There is no mention of him putting gifts under the tree.
8. How did St. Nick go back up the chimney?

Answer: He nodded

According to the story, he put his finger next to his nose, gave a nod, and up the chimney he rose!
9. Did the children wake up during any of this?

Answer: No

No, they stayed snug in their beds, dreaming of sugarplums.
10. As he drove off, St. Nick exclaimed "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Happy New Year!"

Answer: False

Sorry if this one was tricky, but he actually said "Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!", at least in the original story. It has most likely been changed to "Merry Christmas" in retellings over the years. St. Nick does not make reference to New Years.

Hope you enjoyed my quiz, Happy Holidays all! :)
