Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 2003 "Royal Rumble" took place at the Fleet Center, in Boston. The main event was the Royal Rumble match, which lasted for almost an hour. It all came down to two competitors at the end, who happened to be the last two to enter the match. Who were they?

Answer: Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker

The first to enter the 2003 edition of the "Royal Rumble" was Shawn Michaels, who was quickly eliminated by Chris Jericho in two minutes. The 29th entrant was Brock Lesnar, who won his place in the match in that same event by defeating Big Show in a previous match. The last to enter was The Undertaker, who lasted a little less than 7 minutes in the ring, and was the last to be eliminated, by Lesnar. With his victory, Lesnar earned a "Wrestlemania XIX" match against Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship, which he won.

Who would've thought that eleven years later, at "WrestleMania XXX", Lesnar would break Undertaker's undefeated streak at this event!
2. Chris Benoit won the 2004 Royal Rumble match, and he was the first to enter the match! Which superstar, who was a WCW and WWE World Heavyweight Champion and a former football player, got lucky and entered the match at #30 and eliminated three people before being eliminated himself by Kurt Angle?

Answer: Goldberg

Bill Goldberg spent only a year in WWE, but was completely dominant, since he was practically undefeated during his tenure in the company. Goldberg entered the 2004 "Royal Rumble" as the last one, and eliminated Charlie Haas, Billy Gunn and Nunzio. However, Brock Lesnar, who didn't participate in the match, interfered and attacked Goldberg, allowing Kurt Angle to eliminate him.

The winner of the match was Chris Benoit, who won a Triple Threat match against Shawn Michaels and Triple H at "Wrestlemania XX" to become new World Heavyweight Champion. From Benoit's match on, the "Royal Rumble" winner would be able to choose which title he wanted to compete for.
3. The ending of the 2005 Royal Rumble match was controversial, since John Cena and Batista, the last two competitors in the ring, were eliminated at the same time. Which superstar, known as "The Nature Boy", got lucky and was the last to enter the Rumble, although he lasted two minutes before being tossed out of the ring by Edge?

Answer: Ric Flair

Ric Flair is often regarded as one of the best wrestlers in history. He first signed with WWE in 1991, when it was called World Wrestling Federation, but his career was already remarkable at that point, since he had competed in NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) with his stable of "The Four Horsemen" and in WCW (World Championship Wrestling), where he worked for five years. Flair is a sixteen-time world heavyweight champion, with the several companies he worked with.

At the 2005 "Royal Rumble", Batista and John Cena fell out of the ring at the same time, so the referees couldn't decide on who won. Mr. McMahon ordered the match to be restarted and Batista finally eliminated Cena. Batista went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H at "Wrestlemania 21".
4. The lucky thirtieth man to enter the 2006 Royal Rumble match was Randy Orton, who was also the last wrestler to be eliminated. Which wrestler eliminated Orton, thus winning the match?

Answer: Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio was the second to enter the match, which means he started it against Triple H. Surprisingly, they were among the last three men in the match, with Randy Orton. Even though Triple H and Orton made an alliance against Mysterio, the latter managed to eliminate Triple H from the match. After a few minutes, and despite the fact that Triple H assaulted him, Rey Mysterio threw Orton over the top rope to win the match, breaking a record for most time spent in the Rumble.

Mysterio, who was born in San Diego but has Mexican parents, lost his "Wrestlemania" title match against Orton at "No Way Out", but the match was later made a Triple Threat one, and at "Wrestlemania 22", Mysterio defeated Orton and Kurt Angle to become new World Heavyweight Champion.
5. At the 2007 "Royal Rumble", The Undertaker made history by becoming the first wrestler to win the match after getting lucky and entering from the thirtieth slot. Undertaker made three eliminations during the match, but which of these was NOT eliminated by The Undertaker?

Answer: The Miz

Even though it should be easier to win the Rumble entering at #30, The Undertaker became the first in history to win after being the last to enter. Undertaker first eliminated The Great Khali, who had amazingly eliminated 7 superstars himself, and immediately afterwards, he eliminated Montel Vontavious Porter. The match ended when Undertaker last eliminated Shawn Michaels. This earned him a match for the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista at "Wrestlemania 23", which he won.

The Miz, whose real name is Mike Mizanin, didn't even last ten seconds in the match! He only had time to enter the ring, as seven seconds after his entrance, he was eliminated by The Great Khali.
6. The 2008 "Royal Rumble" took place at New York's Madison Square Garden. It was an exciting match, but even more exciting was the thirtieth entrant of the match, who returned after months of inactivity because of a torn pectoral muscle. Which wrestler, who was the last to enter the Royal Rumble match, won?

Answer: John Cena

I remember watching that match and surprising myself when I heard Cena's music play! In 2007, he tore a pectoral muscle in a match against Mr. Kennedy at "Raw", although WWE made it look as if Orton had caused it when he attacked Cena after the match, to continue the storyline of their rivalry. Triple H, who was the last man to be eliminated from the match, was amazed to see Cena there, as he was scheduled to return until later in the year.

John Cena would go against Randy Orton and Triple H at "Wrestlemania XIV" in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship. Orton retained the title after that match.
7. Big Show got lucky in the 2009 edition of the "Royal Rumble", since he was the last to enter the match. Which superstar, known as "the legend killer", eliminated Big Show and eventually won the match?

Answer: Randy Orton

Randy Orton, who was the eight man to enter the match, won the 2009 Royal Rumble match after last eliminating Triple H. At that time, he led a stable called "The Legacy", and teammates Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase helped him in several of the eliminations, before being both tossed out of the ring by Triple H. Orton earned a WWE Championship match at "Wrestlemania XXV" against Edge, although Edge lost the title to Triple H before the event. Triple H retained the title at "Wrestlemania".
8. Edge won the 2010 Royal Rumble match after eliminating John Cena, who eliminated the lucky thirtieth man to enter the match. Which of these wrestlers, known for his "bomb" finisher, was the last to enter the match?

Answer: Batista

Batista, who has been World Heavyweight Champion several times in WWE, and whose finisher is the "Batista Bomb", was eliminated by John Cena a bit more than five minutes after entering the match. This sparked a conflict between Batista and Cena, which would culminate at the "Over the Limit" event, after which Batista quit WWE.

The winner of the match, Edge, failed to defeat World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho at "WrestleMania XXVI".
9. The 2011 "Royal Rumble" was a special one, since the battle royal match featured forty wrestlers instead of the usual thirty. The thirtieth man to enter was Wade Barrett, but in this case, someone else got lucky. Which wrestler, who held the record for most Rumble eliminations until 2014, was the last to enter?

Answer: Kane

Kane, a veteran in WWE, reached his seventeenth "Royal Rumble" appearance in 2014, which made him the wrestler with most appearances in the event of all time. Up to 2014, he had the record for most eliminations in a single match, which dates back to 2001 when he eliminated eleven men. However, Roman Reigns broke his record in the 2014 "Royal Rumble" after eliminating twelve people.

Alberto del Rio won the 2011 Royal Rumble match, which earned him a World Heavyweight Championship match at "WrestleMania XXVII" against Edge, which he lost.
10. John Cena won the 2013 Royal Rumble match, by eliminating the last man to enter the match. This lucky guy was known years before as Skip Sheffield, and had many matches against jobbers before getting his big push. Who entered in the 30th slot at the 2013 "Royal Rumble"?

Answer: Ryback

Ryan Reeves first used the ring name Ryback in High Dosage, and in WWE's developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling. He entered WWE via "NXT", and shortly after that, several rookies from "NXT" invaded "Raw". The stable became known as "The Nexus", and Reeves was known as Skip Sheffield. He came back from an injury in 2012, under the ring name Ryback, and fought jobbers for months before being promoted to a main event superstar.

He was the last to enter the 2013 Royal Rumble match and eliminated five people, but was finally eliminated by John Cena. Cena would later face and defeat The Rock at "WrestleMania 29", obtaining the WWE Championship.
