Identify the ten boots in this list, as per the above description, as distinct from those that only cover the feet.
There are 10 correct entries. Get 3 incorrect and the game ends.
As mentioned in the introduction, most boots are designed to cover the feet and the ankle, as a minimum. They can extend to the knee, above the knee and even go as far as the hip.
Boots can be made for a specific purpose. Good examples are hiking boots, football boots or steel capped boots for construction sites. They offer protection from heavy objects, mud, water and temperatures. They may also provide support for the ankles... as a hiker, that is something I look for in a boot.
Early versions of the boot were not whole. They came in separate components of sole, upper and legging. Around 1000 BC these evolved into single piece units. They were mainly constructed out of leather though, nowadays, there is a wide variety of material utilized. A good example is the Australian Ugg boot which is made of sheepskin with the fleece attached. Some will have a synthetic sole, commonly made from Ethylene-vinyl acetate.
Boots can also be used to make fashion statements. The 1960s saw a boom in boot sales as a fashion accessory, and there's a good chance that those sales were boosted as a consequence of Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'" and its accompanying video clip, which featured a bevy of female dancers attired in very short skirts and calf length boots. Boots have also been adopted to create an identity and the perfect example of this is the continued use of Bovver boots by the skinhead fraternity.
Finally, boots are solid, sturdy and serious footwear. They say a lot about the person wearing them. When was the last time you saw a cowboy wearing sneakers?
