Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

You can see how it works in different ways. For example, you could hold up five fingers and count how many more fingers it takes to get to ten. That's five. Or, you could use a number line. Start at 5 and count how many jumps you have to make to get to 10. Again, that's five. If you're really a math whiz, you could subtract 5 from 10 to get 5. However you do it, five is the answer you want to get. And the same idea works with all the number pairs.

There are eleven number bonds to 10, like this:
0 and 10, 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, 5 and 5, 6 and 4, 7 and 3, 8 and 2, 9 and 1, 10 and 0.

Did you notice something interesting? At first, the number on the left hand side of the problem or number sentence is smaller and the number on the right hand side is bigger. Then we get to 5+5=10. And then, the numbers on the left hand side get bigger and the ones on the right hand side get smaller. It's as though the problems or number sentences after 5+5=10 are the mirror images of the ones before 5+5=10. So, really, you only need to learn six of these number pairs, because once you know that 8+2=10, say, then you know that 2+8=10. For a bonus, learning these number pairs down cold will help with subtraction too.
