Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Robert L. May wrote the booklet "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" in 1939. It told the story of a young reindeer who had a bright shiny nose that all of the other reindeer made fun of. Then, on one very dark and stormy Christmas Eve when Santa needed help finding his way, he asked Rudolph to use his bright nose to light up and show the way. When the other reindeer see that Santa respects Rudolph's nose, they accept Rudolph and no longer make fun of him.

Johnny Marks was Robert May's brother-in-law. He was also a songwriter who decided to take the story and make it into a song. The first time that members of the public heard it was during a live radio show in 1949 when it was sung by Harry Brannon. Gene Autry was the first to take it to Number One on the pop music charts in the US in December, 1949. The song has been recorded by a number of famous people over the years, and remains a favourite for people to sing on their own during the holidays.

"Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" is also the title of an animated television special (1964) and an animated movie (1998). The song about Rudolph appears in both the television show and the movie.
