Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Friends went to London because Ross was getting married. What was his fiancée's name?

Answer: Emily

Emily Waltham was introduced into the cast in season 4/episode 14, "TOW Joey's Dirty Day", as the niece of Rachel's boss. Rachel had promised to attend an opera concert with Emily, but talked Ross into doing it instead so that she could go on a date with her current love interest, Joshua. Ross and Emily immediately bonded, and became very nearly inseparable, spending their weekend together in Vermont after the concert.

During the next few episodes Ross and Emily's relationship blossomed. When it was time for Emily to return to London, the couple decided they did not wish to be apart. In "TOW All the Haste" (season 4/episode 19), after quite a whirlwind romance, the couple decided to marry in London.

Apparently the show's writers intended that Ross's marriage to Emily would last; a new plan was necessary when Helen Baxendale, who played Emily, became pregnant and didn't want to stay in the United States to film the show. The next season, Baxendale made three cameo appearances to settle things with Ross, who was once again a loser in love.
2. Which of the Friends was unable to go to the wedding due to health reasons?

Answer: Phoebe

Phoebe was heavily pregnant, expecting her brother's triples, and her doctor wouldn't allow her to fly. Don't feel bad for her, though! She played an integral role in the two episodes. First, her conversation with Rachel after the others left convinced Rachel that she still loved Ross, something that she herself didn't even know.

And after Rachel left for London, Phoebe called (these were the days before everyone had a cell phone!) and tried to warn the group of a possible impending disaster. During the wedding ceremony Phoebe finally convinced Mrs. Waltham to let her talk to Joey, and Joey kept the phone on-line so that she could listen.
3. What excuse did Rachel give for not going to Ross's wedding?

Answer: Work

Ross was so obtuse that he actually tried to talk Rachel into changing her mind about her "work" and coming to London. Rachel assured him that she just couldn't take the time off, which, of course, was not the truth.

At first Rachel believed that it would just be too uncomfortable, considering that Ross had at one time been her boyfriend, and that was why she had made her decision not to attend. But after talking it out with Phoebe, she realized that she still loved Ross. According to Phoebe, all the others knew that Rachel still loved Ross, and they thought she knew it too.

Well this is a dilemma! Rachel decided that she had to go to London and tell Ross about her feelings. According to Phoebe, Ross didn't know.
4. Which of the Friends spent the day sightseeing with Duchess Sarah Ferguson in London?

Answer: Joey

Joey was very excited about going to London and convinced Chandler to go sightseeing with him, as he had a pop-up map of all the major sights. Chandler, however, was an unwilling tourist. When they went to Westminster Abbey, Joey told him that he was Westminster Crabby!

After Joey bought a silly hat adorned with a UK flag, Chandler ditched him to go sightseeing on his own. Joey came back with a video that proved that he had convinced Duchess Sarah Ferguson to tell Chandler that she liked the hat and thought it was "dashing".
5. Once the Friends arrived in London, there was talk of postponing Ross's wedding. Why?

Answer: The wedding venue had been torn down.

Emily had a dream that she wanted to be married at the same venue where her parents had married. The building was slated for demolition, and Emily knew that, but the crew actually tore it down early. When Monica heard of the problem, she suggested postponing the wedding. Ross was outraged, pointing out the cost of having the wedding in London; he and his bride-to-be had a huge fight when he told her that postponing the wedding was stupid. She suggested that they just call it off instead.

After Ross confronted Monica with the absurdity of her idea, Monica realized how important the venue was, and how very important it was to have Ross understand that. She figured out a way to make the ruins beautiful with lights, flowers, and candles, and the couple agreed that it would be lovely.
6. The Geller and Waltham families got along famously at the rehearsal dinner.

Answer: False

The families did seem to hit it off, especially when the Gellers agreed to foot half the bill - something that did not normally happen in British weddings. What caused the problem was that the Walthams gave them an itemized bill that showed all sorts of home repairs that really didn't seem to be related to the wedding. This led to continual bickering between the two couples.

In the midst of all of the squabbling, Ross stepped in and tried to negotiate a change to the bill that was acceptable to both parties. When that failed to work, he threatened that if the parents didn't compromise and get along, there would be no grandchildren.
7. What happened to Monica at Ross's rehearsal dinner that made her feel very sad?

Answer: A drunk man thought she was Ross's mother.

The drunk man complimented Monica about what a nice man Ross was, and commented that she must have been a teenager when she had him. That, along with the fact that her mother was constantly reminding her that she was still single, and that she had no current prospects, sent Monica over the edge. She feared that she would never get married.
8. So Rachel flew to Ross's wedding alone, thinking that she had to tell him her true feelings. How did she pass the time on the airplane?

Answer: She told the man next to her everything about Ross.

The man in the seat next to Rachel already didn't like her at all because she had been tapping her hands on her magazine. And when he tried to put on headphones and ignore her, she refused to accept his privacy. He ended up hearing all about her past relationship with Ross, and finally told her that she was a "horrible, horrible person".

He advised Rachel that nothing good would come from telling Ross her true feelings, and that he agreed that it "seems to be perfectly clear that you were on a break".
9. "Who wouldn't want you?" Which of the Friends asked this question?

Answer: Chandler

Chandler was always looking for a laugh on the show, and was rather goofy, but occasionally he also showed his warm, caring side. He knew that Monica was upset about not having any marital prospects and witnessed her exchange with the drunk man. He tried to console her.

And console her he did! Did anyone see that coming? When Ross barged into Chandler's room the next morning, Chandler briefly talked with him, and after Ross left, it was revealed that Monica was in bed with Chandler. Throughout the rest of the wedding, they talked about what they had done. Was it good? Was it stupid? They finally concluded that Monica would come and visit Chandler again after the wedding.
10. How did the season 4 finale of "Friends" end?

Answer: Ross said Rachel's name during the vows.

Needless to say, Ross was very surprised to see Rachel at the wedding venue after all. Phoebe tried to warn everyone about Rachel's intentions, but it didn't appear to be necessary to pull her aside. Rachel chatted with Ross and hugged him, and then seemed to think better about stating her true feelings.

In spite of that, when the ceremony began, Ross clearly said, "I Ross...Take thee, Rachel". And with that, season 4 of "Friends" was over.
