Answer: St. Petersburg

St. Peterburg was founded and named after Emperor Peter the Great, believed by many to be the greatest of Russian leaders, in 1703. It would later be re-named Petrograd, then Leningrad, and became St. Petersburg again in 1991.
2. When was Ayn Rand born?

Answer: 1905

Rand was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on February 2nd and was the eldest of three daughters (Alisa, Natasha, and Nora) of a Jewish family. Her parents, Zinovny Zacharovich Rosenbaum and Anna Borisovna Rosenbaum, were agnostic and largely non-observant.

Answer: University of Petrograd

When Rand returned from the Crimea, St. Petersburg had become Petrograd, and the name of the university was changed as well.

Rand majored in philosophy, but the curriculum at Petrograd included history, philology and law. Philology is the study of language and the literature in the language.

Rand arrived in New York, her later home, in February, 1926. She described New York in "The Fountainhead": "I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York's skyline, the sky over New York and the will of man made visible."

Blumenthal would later be known as Branden, and Peikoff would be her "intellectual heir." Rand met O'Connor while working with Cecil B. DeMille on the set of "King of Kings." They married on April 15, 1929 and remained married until his death in 1979.

Answer: Red Pawn

"Red Pawn" was bought by Universal Studios in 1932 and Marlene Dietrich was considered for the lead before it was shelved. She later wrote "Love Letters" and adapted "The Fountainhead" into a film.

Answer: 1982

After successfully battling lung cancer, Rand died of heart failure on March 6, 1982.

Answer: Valhalla, New York

Rand's funeral was attended by some of her prominent followers, including Alan Greenspan. A six-foot floral arrangement in the shape of a dollar sign was placed near her casket. The cemetary where they are interred is home to many notable personalities including: Lou Gehrig, Anne Bancroft, and Sergei Rachmaninoff, Rand's favorite composer.
10. Approximately how many copies of Ayn Rand's books were sold in 2002?

Answer: 500,000

All told, over 22 millions copies of Rand's books have been sold. Her books have had an enduring effect on young people. As of January 2007, her novel "Atlas Shrugged" is being adapted as a film starring Angelina Jolie.
