1. I wear white armour, and ride the mighty steed Morgenstern. I love hunting, and prowl the forest of Arden. Who am I?

Answer: Julian

Prince Julian guards Amber from attack from Arden. He is master of all beasts, and an expert hunter. Morgenstern is his mighty horse, who was made to hate Corwin.

2. Of the princesses, I'm the most different. I wear grey and green, which goes well with my green eyes and hair. I live in Rebma and don't take part in family politics. Who am I?

Answer: Llewella

Llewella lives in the underwater kingdom of Rebma, a reflection of Amber. Although she is a part of the family, she has no aspirations to rise high, and is content in Rebma.

3. My father was punished because he broke my mother's heart and she took her life, and he was forced to marry a blind woman. Like my father, I love music. Although I tried to keep myself out of family politics, I was once stabbed in an attempt to erase the Pattern. Who am I?

Answer: Martin

Son of Random, King of Amber, Martin grew up out of the family circle. He was educated privately by Benedict, Caine and G�rard, but was given independence. He was brought back into the family circle quite violently when Brand tried to stab him in the middle of the Pattern. He is later acquainted with his father, and the two of them for a bond.

4. My best friend is also my cousin, and I tried to kill him before we became friends. If that isn't enough, my wife is his lover, and he happens to be the son of my father's worst enemy. My true love is a demon sent to protect my friend, and I'm a Prince of Kashfa. Who am I?

Answer: Rinaldo

Luke Raynard is Merle Corey's best friend. Luke is Rinaldo son of Brand, and Merle is Merlin son of Corwin. Luke is also (by way of his mother Jasra) the prince of Kashfa, and when he has to claim the throne, it turns out that Merlin's lover, Coral, is intended for him. Things are complicated because Luke is actually in love with Nadya, the demon sent to protect Merlin. Luke actually dies; he's killed by the Pattern and the Logrus, though he lives on in his shadow-ghost form that Merlin gives strength and substance to.

5. I'm an excellent sorcerer with red hair. I crave power, and almost managed to erase the Pattern with the blood of a nephew. I'm very evil and the last person I killed was my sister. Who am I?

Answer: Brand

Brand is a sorcerer who wants to erase the old Pattern and to inscribe a new one with the Jewel of Judgement. He tries to erase it with the blood of Martin, but fails. He has managed to make himself into a living Trump, and can go where he pleases. He is allied with the forces of Chaos, and wages war on the Amberites. Brand dies in the Patternfall War, and in his dying grasp, also drags Deirdre into the abyss.

6. I am the weapons-master of Amber, and can fight exceptionally with either hand. One of these hands I lost at the elbow to a hell-maid that I had a child with. In compensation, a brother of mine brought me a mechanical arm, but it didn't last long. Who am I?

Answer: Benedict

Benedict is the arms master of Amber, and an exceptional strategist. He is in charge of the defence of the City. He lost an arm to Lintra the hell-maid, and unknowingly had a daughter with her. His great-granddaughter is Dara, mother of Merlin. Corwin brought him a magical arm from Tir-na Nog'th, but the arm was soon lost to fulfill its destiny.

7. I'm a sentient computer with the voice of the one who created me. I exist physically on a Shadow beyond the laws of Physics, but I can transmit myself across Shadow as easily as I can bring objects through Shadow. Who am I?

Answer: Ghostwheel

Ghostwheel is a project of Merlin's, that is to be presented to Random as a gift. But when Random becomes wary of the power of the computer and threatens to shut it down, Ghostwheel protects itself by hiding in Shadow. Merlin regains the trust of Ghostwheel, and it becomes an extremely powerfull ally.

8. I'm the strongest of all my brothers, and an expert in hand-to-hand combat. I wear blue and grey, and command the fleets of Amber. My honour is important to me, and I serve justice. Who am I?

Answer: G�rard

G�rard commands the fleets entirely on his own when Caine is assasinated by Rinaldo. He is strong, and considered slow, but when the battle is on his own terms - hand-to-hand - G�rard has no equal. He has a defined sense of justice, as he will not let anyone near Brand when he is stabbed, or when he threatens Corwin with his life if he is in league with the enemies of Amber, but does not take an active part in Amber's politics.

9. I have red hair, and dress in orange and red. I have many ambitions, and once joined forces with my brother to kill another brother. I once fell from the top of Kolvir but was saved because of a pack of cards. Who am I?

Answer: Bleys

Bleys joined forces with Corwin to try and kill Eric and gain the throne. Although they amassed a mighty army, they reached Kolvir and finally Bleys was pushed off the stairway, to fall into the abyss, but Corwin tossed him a pack of Trumps, and Bleys managed to save himself. He went into hiding, and returned only for the Patternfall War.

10. I'm a lord of both Amber and Chaos, and am the hub of a power struggle between the Pattern and the Logrus. I grow up not knowing my father, and my mother has discreet plans for me to take the throne. Who am I?

Answer: Merlin

Merlin son of Dara of Chaos, and Corwin of Amber, is an initiate of both the Logrus and the Pattern. Both of them chose Merlin as their champion, but Merlin tries to remain aloof from cosmic politics. He is an excellent sorcerer, and is brought up on the Shadow of Earth.

It seems that everyone is out to get Merlin, his cousin Rinaldo (until they became friends), his ex-girlfriend Julia, his half-brother Jurt among others.

11. I have red hair, and I'm a sorceress that studied under Dworkin. I once joined forces with my two full brothers to take the throne, but when one turned evil, we had to lock him away, and when he was being rescued, I stabbed him. Who am I?

Answer: Fiona

Fiona joined with Brand and Bleys joined forces to take the throne, but when Brand revealed his real intentions, he was locked up in a distant Shadow. When Corwin and the rest of the family try and set Brand free, Fiona stabs him, injuring him seriously. Merlin also studied under Fiona, learning important things from her about the Trumps and about the Pattern.

12. I wear gray and black and my cloak can often be clasped by a silver rose. I wield Grayswandir at my side. I'm a good friend of Bill Roth, and I inscribed a Pattern on my own. Who am I?

Answer: Corwin

Corwin starts the Chronicles of Amber without his memory, but with the ambition to gain the throne of Amber. He learns that power is not all it seems to be, and his ambition for the throne diminishes as his love for Amber grows. Believing that Oberon perished without fixing the original Pattern, Corwin inscribes a second Pattern of his own in a new place. Corwin also has a son with Dara of Chaos, called Merlin.

13. I have dark black hair and a great black beard. I wear a longsword at my side. I claimed the throne of Amber and had my brother's eyes put out. Who am I?

Answer: Eric

Eric claimed the throne of Amber not knowing what became of King Oberon. In a bloody conflict against Corwin and Bleys, Corwin was caught and imprisoned, and chained for the coronation. After the coronation, Eric had Corwin's eyes burned out of his head. Corwin later broke out of prison and set out to kill Eric, but when he made it to Amber he found Eric already dying on the battlefield.

14. I have blond hair, and I wear orange, red and brown. I am the only one in the family in a stable marriage, and am chosen by the unicorn for greatness. Who am I?

Answer: Random

Random is chosen by the unicorn to be king of Amber after Oberon dies, although he is the youngest of all of Oberon's (acknowledged) children. Random has one son, Martin, by way of a princess of Remba, and is married to Vialle, a blind woman from Remba.

He is known as a troublemaker, but mellows after beginning to understand the entrapment of power, and after getting to know his son better.

15. I have so many children, its really hard to keep track. I'm a shape-shifter as my father is, and disguised myself for a while as Ganelon. I gave my life for the Pattern although I'm a son of Chaos. Who am I?

Answer: Oberon

Oberon is the King of Amber, who mysteriously disappears at the beginning of the chronicles of Amber. It is believed that he is either dead or a captive, and the vacancy on the throne leads to a power struggle. He entrusts Corwin with the task of retaining the throne, but returns to claim it when the Pattern is injured. Oberon gives his life fixing the Pattern, but is buried in the Courts of Chaos as he is the son of Chaos. Dworkin was his father, and the Unicorn his mother.
