1. The Thirst (2017)

Answer: Jo Nesbø

Nesbø is a Norwegian author, whose works have been translated into over 50 languages. More than 50 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide, making him the most successful Norwegian author of all time. "The Thirst" is Nesbø's eleventh novel featuring police officer Harry Hole.

In this novel a sadistic killer uses manufactured iron teeth to take the life of his victims and apparently drink their blood, inspired by the idea of vampires.
2. Usher's Passing (1984)

Answer: Robert R. McCammon

Robert Rick McCammon is a prominent novelist (particularly of horror and mystery fiction) from Birmingham, Alabama. His works have gained him numerous awards and award nominations. "Usher's Passing", in fact, earned McCammon an award from the Alabama Library Association.

The novel centers on the divide between the aristocratic family of the Ushers and a community of hill people near Asheville, North Carolina. The plot also includes child disappearances, a serial killer, as well as ghouls and monsters, whose roots lie in the Ushers' family history.
3. The Caller (2017)

Answering his video calls is never for good. "The Caller" deals with a vengeful serial killer, who tortures his victims in front of their family members and friends, who have answered their phones. Detectives Hunter and Garcia must try their best to stop him, but will they... you will see, if you read the book.

Chris Carter was born in Brasilia, Brazil, and later studied psychology in the United States, specializing in criminal behaviour. At one point of his life he worked as a criminal psychologist.
4. The Woods Are Dark (1981)

The novel's plot concerns the kidnapping of a family and a pair of college students, after they have stopped in a small California town. They are then led to the woods, where they are to be sacrificed to a group of beings, referred to as "the Krulls".

Laymon was an author of suspense and horror fiction (splatterpunk in particular). His works include more than 30 novels and over 60 short stories. Although praised by fellow authors such as Stephen King and Dean Koontz, Laymon's works weren't particularly popular in the United States. On the other hand, he did receive much greater recognition for them among European readers (especially in the United Kingdom).
5. Big Driver (2010)

"Big Driver" is one of the novellas from King's "Full Dark, No Stars" collection (along with "1922", "Fair Extension" and "A Good Marriage"). It deals with mystery author Tess, who has been directed into a trap and raped, and seeks revenge afterwards. The novella was adapted into a movie, starring Maria Bello as the main protagonist.

Stephen King has written over 60 novels/novellas and more than 200 short stories. He is prominent for his works in numerous genres. Many of his stories contain strong supernatural elements. In 2015 he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
6. The Eyes of Darkness (1981)

Dean Koontz is a prominent author, whose works cover various genres such as suspense, thriller, horror, science fiction, fantasy, mystery and satire. He has written both numerous stand-alone novels and several different sets of series. For the publishing of "The Eyes of Darkness" Koontz initially used the pseudonym Leigh Nichols (he has used several in his career).

The novel tells the story of Tina Evans, a mother who receives paranormal messages, indicating her son Danny, who she thought had died, might still be alive. Tina and her lawyer Elliot Stryker, with whom she has an affair, try to discover the truth. Soon they get chased by agents of the Pandora Project, whose goal is to kill them.
7. Charley's Web (2008)

Joy Fielding is a Canadian writer/actress, the author of numerous novels. Her works are usually set in large American cities.

"Charley's Web" depicts the story of controversial columnist Charley Webb, as she sets out to find the truth, which in the case of this novel makes a huge difference. A young woman is on a death row and the main protagonist must find out if she's innocent, to save her life. However, many obstacles and dangers appear on the way of Webb, as various aspects of her and her family's life are also revealed in the course of the story.
8. I Heard That Song Before (2007)

Answer: Mary Higgins Clark

Mary Higgins Clark was an American author of suspense, mystery and psychological thriller novels. Her 51 books became bestsellers in both the United States and various European countries.

In the beginning of "I Heard That Song Before", six-year-old Kay Lansing sneaks away from her father's side and overhears a woman blackmailing a man for money. As the blackmailer attempts to assure the man this will be the last time he pays her, he responds "I heard that song before." The same night the girlfriend of Peter, the eldest son of the Carrington family Kay's father works for, disappears without a trace. 22 years later Kay marries Peter, but soon has to start questioning certain things about her husband, whose pregnant wife died 8 years ago. Carrington's nocturnal habits in particular provoke Kay's interest.
9. A Taste of Heaven (2013)

Meg Tilly is a Canadian-American actress and author. She made her film debut in 1980. Tilly's first novel was published in 1994.

"A Taste of Heaven" follows the story of Madison Stokes, a pretty average girl, who finds a new friend when Alyssa Hawkins moves to her town. Nevertheless, Alyssa has a secret she doesn't want anyone to know. When Madison accidentally finds out about it, she wants to tell it. But if she does, she might lose her best friend.
10. Cabal (1988)

Answer: Clive Barker

Born on the 5th of October 1952 in Liverpool, Clive Barker gained recognition with his six short story collections "Books of Blood", published between 1984 and 1985. Most of his novels and short stories fall into the horror and fantasy genres.

"Cabal" is a horror novella, in which a young man named Boone is told by his psychiatrist that he is responsible for serial murders he has no memory of committing. Boone then performs a suicide attempt, after which he is taken to a clinic. There a fellow patient, Narcisse, who believes Boone is an emissary of Midian, a semi-mythical city that welcomes monsters, cuts his own face with a razor. A number of supernatural, horrific and dramatic events follow.
11. Now You See Her (2011)

Answer: James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge

James Patterson is an American writer, whose works have sold over 425 million copies. He was the first person to sell 1 million e-books. Many of his works Patterson has co-written with other authors.

"Now You See Her" was written by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. It describes the efforts of lawyer Nina Bloom to help an innocent man framed for murder. At the same time she must protect her daughter from the darkness of her own past, which is about to rise again.

Michael Ledwidge has collaborated with James Patterson in the creation of many works - before and after the publishing of "Now You See Her". He is also the author of the novels "Bad Connection", "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and "The Narrowback".
12. Full Wolf Moon (2017)

Answer: Lincoln Child

Born in Westport, Connecticut, Lincoln Child is an author of thriller and horror stories. He is the author of several kinds of series, as well as some stand-alone novels. Some of his works he has co-written with Douglas Preston.

"Full Wolf Moon" is one of Child's solo works. It is part of his series featuring Dr. Jeremy Logan. The main protagonist views himself as an enigmologist, investigating phenomena behind which there seems to stand no natural, logical or obvious explanation. In "Full Wolf Moon" Logan is on a search to discover who (or what) is responsible for the grisly deaths of various people in the Adirondacks.
13. Such Sharp Teeth (2022)

Answer: Rachel Harrison

This novel is Rachel Harrison's third book (later in 2022 she published the short story collection "Bad Dolls"). Several of her works have received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. Harrison writes horror and is known for her sarcastic tone of storytelling.

"Such Sharp Teeth" is a werewolf story, but not only that. It's a tale about mental (and, of course, physical) transformation as well. Family ties and overcoming trauma are also key elements of the novel.
14. Hour Game (2004)

David Baldacci is an American author, who mainly writes suspense and legal thriller novels. He is the author of several kinds of series, as well as many stand-alone books. He has also published short story collections, novellas and novels for young readers.

"Hour Game" is the second novel in Baldacci's King and Maxwell book series. In it someone is imitating the killing styles of some of history's most notorious murderers. The motif for the crimes is unknown and predicting who the next victim might be is a difficult task. Ex-Secret Service agents Sean King and Michelle Maxwell uncover one terrifying revelation after another, putting their lives at risk. The final surprise is the most shocking one.
15. Things We Do in the Dark (2022)

Answer: Jennifer Hillier

Jennifer Hillier is a Filipino-Canadian author, whose works have been translated in more than 20 languages. Her novels have been described as psychological thrillers. Hillier says that she imagines the worst about people and then writes about it. In "Things We Do in the Dark", Paris Peralta is arrested for the murder of her celebrity husband.

In fact, she's caught covered in blood and holding a razor, with the dead body in the bathtub behind her. Nevertheless, this isn't what worries her the most. Someone from Paris's past may recognize her, now that she has become the object of media attention, and destroy her life and future.
