"12 Angry Men" Juror Deep Dive Quiz

My absolute favorite film of all time. The fact that 95% of this film takes place in a single room, has the same dozen actors, contains no action (just dialogue) and can remain as compelling almost 70 years later is absolutely amazing.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Throughout the course of the film we learn the occupations of ten of the twelve jurors. Which two do we *NOT* know by the end of the movie?

Answer: Jurors 5 and 9

Apparently Juror 5 is a health care worker of sorts but it is not mentioned in this film. There is no mention of Juror 9's occupation, but we can assume he is retired.
2. One juror mentions that they own a messenger service, the Beck & Call Company. Who came up with the company name?

Answer: His wife

After Juror 4 explains his occupation, unprompted, Juror 3 pulls out his business card and explains the name of his company was his wife's idea.
3. Name the actor who portrays Juror 6, the house painter.

Answer: Edward Binns

Edward Binns showed up in three other Sidney Lumet films, "The Verdict", "Lovin' Molly", and "Fail Safe". Binns does a great job portraying Juror 6, who I see as a man of great integrity, which is evident when he sticks up for Juror 9 who is talked down to by Juror 3.
4. The deliberation begins with a vote by raised hands to see where everyone stands. Henry Fonda is the only vote for not guilty. For the second vote it is agreed to be done by secret ballot. Only one other juror changes their vote for not guilty. Which juror number is this?

Answer: 9

"This gentleman has been standing alone against us. Now, he doesn't say that the boy is not guilty; he just isn't sure. Well, it's not easy to stand alone against the ridicule of others, so he gambled for support... and I gave it to him."

Even though Juror 8 raised the initial question of a not guilty verdict, Juror 9 was a huge help by giving his support and bringing up some very important evidence later in the film that went unnoticed by other jurors.
5. One juror mentions they had a run-in with a coworker at the bank where they are employed. Which actor portrays this juror?

Answer: John Fiedler

"I remember I was arguing with the guy I work next to at the bank a couple of weeks ago. He called me an idiot, so I yelled at him."

John Fielder, who also voiced Piglet in "Winnie the Pooh", played the soft-spoken Juror 2 perfectly.
6. "He was an old man. Half the time he was confused," is a line spoken by which actor?

Answer: Lee J Cobb

The volatile Juror 3, who is described as a "public avenger" and a "sadist", is portrayed by Lee J Cobb. Cobb acted in two of the best films ever made, "On the Waterfront" and "The Exorcist".
7. Juror 7 talks about a Yankee pitcher who is a real "jug-handler". Who is this pitcher?

Answer: Modjelewski

Only one of these is a made-up baseball player, and that would be Modjelewski. Tom Sturdivant, Al Cicotte, and Sal Maglie were all pitchers on the 1957 New York Yankees roster.
8. When Juror 9 is explaining the appearance of the woman who supposedly witnessed the murder happen through her bedroom window he says she looked to be about 35 years old but made an attempt to look 25.

Answer: False

She actually looked to be about 45 years old but with the clothes she was wearing to court was making an attempt to look 35 years old. She was described as wearing clothes to court that should have been worn by a younger woman.
9. Only two of the jurors' real names are revealed, and that doesn't happen until the very last scene of the film. What are the two names?

Answer: Davis and McCardle

Juror 9 follows Juror 8 outside of the courthouse and asks his name right before they part ways and the film ends.

Hagen and McClusky would be from "The Godfather", Palmer and MacReady are from "The Thing", and Rooney and Maguire are from "Road to Perdition".
10. Finally, we'll end with a quote from one of my favorite characters who is talking down to my least favorite character. Which juror cuts in to correct the prejudiced garage owner with, "He DOESN'T even speak good English."?

Answer: Juror 11

"Bright? He's a common, ignorant slob. He don't even speak good English." Once again the ignorance and prejudice of Juror 10 shows and he is quickly corrected by Juror 11, who is the most level-headed of the bunch.
