Ricky comes back to Las Vegas for the funeral of Blair's daughter, Donna. While viewing the body, Liv, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, walks up and starts a conversation with Ricky. Blair walks in as they are hugging and says, "Donna would have been so happy to see you two like this". Ricky and Liv then discover that they are actually father and daughter.

Scott Speedman plays Billy, who is in mutual ownership of a cab with Ralph Beckerman, played by Steve Oatway. After catching his girlfriend with Ralph, Billy goes to a bar where he meets Suzi Loomis. He then starts his journey driving across the country in the cab.

They first decide to have the car repainted to help it from being found. Suzi takes care of the payment for the paint job so they can be on their way. The final decision for Billy to drive her is when she tries to hitchhike.

Answer: A pack of cigarettes

After a long trip on the road, Todd comes home to a family that does not pay any attention to him. The character of Todd, played by Paul Giamatti, gets upset and tells his wife that he is going out for a pack of cigarettes. He also tells this to Sheila (Keegan Connor Tracy) at the hotel karaoke bar and when he picks up Reggie (Andre Braugher) on the side of the road.

Answer: An error in judgement

Andre Braugher plays Reggie, who has just been released from prison. He gets a ride from a semi driver who notices the prison shoes he is wearing. The conversation turns to what he did to end up in prison. Reggie replies, "An error in judgement". After building up a little relationship, Reggie still robs the truck driver when they reach their destination.

As a plea, the truck driver tells him he should learn a trade. Reggie replies, "I have, this is it".

Answer: Tom Jones

Ricky first asks Liv if she was a Keno girl while working in Las Vegas at the funeral showing. After checking into a hotel room she mentions how she stayed with Tom Jones for a month and kept him from being lonely, and now she wants to do the same for new found dad. Ricky could not believe that she did not have any relations with Tom Jones after staying an entire month in his hotel room.

Answer: 800,000 frequent flyer miles

Todd tries unsuccessfully to use his flyer miles when checking into several hotels throughout the movie. The first motel has no vacancies for that benefit. The second hotel deskman says the program ended yesterday. The final hotel in Omaha says they are not accepting that discount at this time. Finally at a TWA ticketline the miles are accepted for air travel, to which Todd replies, "And they say our society has lost its finesse".

Answer: The Sunshine State

While Suzi Loomis, played by Maria Bello, is trying to convince Billy to drive her in his cab across the country to California, she refers to California as the Sunshine State. Billy quickly corrects her saying that Florida is the Sunshine State. Billy is a little unsure what to do, since he just ended an argument with his girlfriend about Ralph. Suzi then says that she needs to get to California, and that she is willing to be nice.

Answer: Try a Little Tenderness

Todd is disappointed at first to see that it is duet night at the karaoke bar they walk into, but quickly gets motivated when Reggie says he can back him up. Reggie almost does not sing and wants to get off stage when two police officers walk in and take a seat. Reggie and Todd do a fantastic job of "Try a Little Tenderness", made famous by Otis Redding, and win that night's competition.

Answer: I Can't Make You Love Me

To get to the finals, Suzi sings Bonnie Raitt's song "I Can't Make You Love Me". She is delayed for a few minutes before singing because she was feeling sick in the bathroom until Billy comes to talk to her and make her feel better. As Billy is watching from the audience, he is visibly moved by a softer side of Suzi that he never saw before. All he had seen was a tough and self-centered personality.

Answer: Michael Bublé

Michael appears in his third movie at the end of "Duets" as a finalist in Omaha. Frank Sinatra had a hit with song in 1966. Bublé was seen worldwide while performing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada.
