Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who wrote the book on which the movie is based?

Answer: Nick Hornby

Hornby also wrote 'Fever Pitch', which was made into a movie starring Colin Firth. 'High Fidelity' was a better adaptation though.
2. Where is the movie set?

Answer: Chicago

The book was set in London, but Cusack chose to move it to Chicago, his home town, for the movie.
3. What are the names of the two assistants in Rob's record store?

Answer: Barry and Dick

Vince and Justin were the skateboarding shoplifters who recorded the track 'I Sold My Mom's Wheelchair'. Ian (or Ray) was the guy Laura went off with, played by Tim Robbins.
4. What is the first thing we hear at the start of the movie?

Answer: the hiss and crackle of a record player

We hear the record player, then the song 'You're Gonna Miss Me' starts. Rob is wallowing in depressing songs after Laura left him.
5. What kind of debate did Barry want to start by playing Katrina and the Waves' song 'Walking on Sunshine'?

Answer: top 5 records to play on a Monday morning

Rob wasn't interested because 'it's Monday afternoon'. Plus he was miserable about Laura leaving.
6. Which song does Rob NOT say that he wants played at his funeral?

Answer: You Can't Always Get What You Want

He hoped that a beautiful, tearful woman would insist on 'You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me' by Gladys Knight. 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' was one of Barry's funeral choices (before he discounted it due to its appearance in "The Big Chill")
7. According to Rob, the secret of making a great compilation tape was to 'start with a killer, to grab attention, and then...' What?

Answer: take it up a notch

He was always making compilation tapes for people. He claimed that it was very complicated, and that there were lots of rules to doing it well.
8. According to the movie, who was Rob's very first girlfriend?

Answer: Alison Ashmore

In the book she was called Alison Ashworth. They went out for three days, then she dumped him for Kevin Bannister, whom she later married.
9. Which actress played Charlie?

Answer: Catherine Zeta Jones

The other actresses were all in the movie too. Iben Hjejle played Laura, Sara Gilbert played Anaugh, and Lisa Bonet was Marie deSalle.
10. The number one thing that Rob misses about Laura is her sense of humour. 'She has the best all time laugh in the history of all time laughs.' How does he say she laughs?

Answer: with her whole body

He also misses her smell, her way of moving, and her strong character.
