Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Tom T. Hall wrote this song based on a real-life incident that happened in his small home town of Olive Hill, Kentucky in the 1940s. A widow was chastised by the local school board concerning her child and she went to their next meeting and exposed all the dirt on the members.
Riley's biggest hit topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Hot Country Singles charts. Riley, a secretary, eventually moved to Gospel music. A 1978 movie and a short-lived tv series in early 1980s, based on the song, both starred Barbara Eden. Sadly Hall took his own life in August 2021 at his home in Franklin, TN, age 85. Toxicology tests showed his system had chlordiazepoxide, used in the treatment of alcohol withdrawal and anxiety. There were indications he was also suffering from several age-related issues.
