Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
As a string instrument, the guitar shares many key parts with other string instruments such as violins and lutes. These include strings, the headstock (where the tuning pegs are), the nut (which supports the strings at the headstock end), the fretboard (piece of wood between the nut and bridge) and the neck (where the player puts their hands on the strings and fretboard). A capstan is where a string is attached and winds around.
The pickup is specific to the electric guitar, converting the string vibrations into an electrical signal. The (output) jack is where the amplifier is plugged in. An electric guitar has a bridge to keep the strings in place but in acoustic guitars it has the additional function of sending the string vibrations into the soundboard, to give the instrument its volume and timbre.
Ornaments are a musical notation indicating extra, fast notes that can be used as embellishments. A snare is a type of drum. The headjoint of a flute is one of three pieces it detaches into - the one with a single hole that the player blows into to produce noise.
Stirrups and bridles are equipment used by horse riders (called "tack"). So is a saddle, but it's also the part of a guitar bridge that supports the strings.
