Acts 16 deals with one of Paul's missionary journeys. They had reached Philippi in Macedonia according to verse 12. In verse 14, they meet Lydia, "a seller of purple." After she was baptised she had them stay at her house. Then they met another woman who was possessed, and in verse 17 of the King James Version, Paul says, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, which shew us the way of salvation." He then commands the evil spirits to leave the women in the name of Jesus and they do.
2. The Everlasting God
Answer: Isaiah 40:28
In Isaiah, the Israelites are getting ready to return to Jerusalem. The prophet is trying to encourage them. In verse 28 of the KJV, he tells them, "Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding."
3. The Lord
Answer: Ezekiel 16:8
Ezekiel was a prophet. He was during the time that the Israelites were in captivity by Babylon, and he is telling about the word of the Lord he received. In the King James Version in chapter 16, verse 8 he says, "I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine." When God is written as GOD in the KHV Bible it is the word "Lord" or in Hebrew "Yahweh." They will also use YHWH as they believe they should not use God's name; Adonai (which means master) is also used.
4. The God Who Sees Me
Answer: Genesis 16:11-14
Sarah had Abraham sleep with her handmaid, Hagar, to have a baby thinking that, being 90, she was not going to have a child herself. Abraham did, and Hagar got pregnant, but that made Sarah resentful. Hagar ran away and was in the wilderness when the Angel of the LORD appeared. He told her she was going to have a son and to name him Ishmael, and that she had to go back to Sarah. He told her about Ishmael's descendants, meaning Ishmael would not be killed, so she did not have to be afraid.
In verse 14 of the 16th chapter of the King James Version, it says, "Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold it is between Kadesh and Bered." The name means the God Who Sees Me. The well was named for The God of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph, who saw her and came to speak to her.
5. God of Peace
Answer: Hebrews 13:20
The writer of Hebrews is talking about how to be a good Christian and live for Jesus. In verse 20 of the KJV, the writer said, "Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus...". He goes on to talk about the blood covenant of the cross.
6. The Lord who heals
Answer: 1 Peter 2:24
1 Peter 2 is also advice for how to live as a good Christian. In verse 24 the author reminds you what Jesus did for you. He says in the KJV, "Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed."
This is based on the belief in the Trinity, that Jesus the Son, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit are all God, three in one. So the sacrifice made by Jesus allowed God to heal all humanity.
7. God Almighty
Answer: Genesis 35:11
In Chapter 35, God sent Jacob to Bethel, where he once fled from his brother Esau, to live and build an altar. At this time, Jacob also had his family get rid of their idols. In verse 10 of the KJV, God changes Jacob's name to Israel. He then tells Jacob (Israel), "I am God Almighty."
8. God of Israel
Answer: Exodus 5:1
Moses and all the Hebrews are in Egypt - enslaved by the Pharaoh. Moses had recently been chosen by God to lead His people out of Egypt. Moses and Aaron (Moses' brother), go to the Pharaoh to let them know they are going to leave, and he must let them go. Exodus 5:1 (KJV) says, "And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness." Of course in the next verse, Pharaoh refused.
9. My shepherd
Answer: Psalm 23:1
In perhaps David's best known Psalm, David opens Psalm 23 with (in KJV) "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
He then goes on in the psalm to explain why he is not in need. The Lord has provided a place for him to rest near water. He has restored his soul. He helps him do the right thing, and He is with him during the tough times so David never has to be afraid.
He then says at the end of the psalm in verse 6: "And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
10. I AM
Answer: Exodus 3:14
Moses has encountered a burning bush, but unlike other burning bushes this one does not get consumed by the fire. He goes over to it and learns it is God speaking to him from the bush. God wants Moses to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, but Moses is a little concerned because he is Hebrew, but was raised as an Egyptian. He does not think the other Hebrews will listen to him; they do not trust him. Most at that point do not even know he is one of them.
He asks God, what if the people ask who sent me? Who do I say you are, that is what is Your name? In verse 14 of the King James Version it says, "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, thus shalt you say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
