Answer: Steve Carlton

The others never reached the 1980s in their career. Carlton was a Cardinal and Phillie throughout his career. He retired with 4139 strikeouts. After four Cy Young awards and one Triple Crown, Steve retired in 1988 and was a hall inductee in 1994.
2. April 4, 1974: This was a historical date in baseball history. Not only being the earliest opening day in Major League history, but a player hit his 714th home run on this day. Who hit it?

Answer: Hank Aaron

Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves tied Babe Ruth's career record of 714 home runs. In Aaron's first at-bat of the season, he hit a three-run shot off Cincinnati's Jack Billingham. The Reds rebounded to win the game in 11 innings, 7-6.

At age 20, Aaron was a Boston Brave second baseman, but never played second base in the 1954 season. What a historical move by manager Charlie Grimm to put Aaron in the outfield to replace Thomson. Hank hit 13 home runs in his first season, then 26, etc, all the way to 755 by 1976. Aaron was also the 1957 NL MVP.
4. April 15, 1947: The Major League color barrier was officially broken by Brooklyn Dodger Jackie Robinson. This was the first of 151 games that he appeared in the 1947 season. Which position did Robinson play throughout that season?

Answer: First base

Jackie won the Rookie of the Year award although he committed 16 errors at first base. The Dodgers moved him to third base, then first base again, then second base in 1948. Mostly playing at second base, he still committed another 13 errors. Playing the entire 1949 season at second base, and even though committing another 16 errors, he won the National League MVP award.
5. April 19, 1952: This pitcher in his first ever at-bat hit a home run. His next at-bat resulted in a triple. He would go on to never hit another home run or triple in his 21 seasons in the Major Leagues. Who is he?

Answer: Hoyt Wilhelm

The others weren't pitchers. Wilhelm would play for nine different teams in his 21 seasons. Starting with the New York Giants on April 19, 1952, to July 10, 1972 with the Dodgers, Hoyt was most noted for his relief pitching prowess. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985.
6. April 18, 1923: Which historical ballpark opened on this date?

Answer: Yankee Stadium

The other ballparks would not open before 1950 or never existed. In the first game at Yankee Stadium, the great Babe Ruth hit a three-run home run to defeat the Red Sox 4-1. The Babe would hit 41 home runs in the new stadium, and the Yankee team welcomed it as they went all the way to their first World Series crown in 1923.
7. April 30, 1922: This day saw the last perfect game in the Major Leagues until Yankee Don Larsen threw a perfecto in the 1956 World Series. Which White Sox pitcher threw this game in 1922?

The others weren't pitchers. After appearing in only one game in the 1919 season, Robertson's next season was in 1922, and he began the season right. In the 1922 season, Charlie went 14-15 with his only highlight being the perfect game. He retired in 1928 after eight seasons with a 49-80 record.

Answer: Jack Morris

The others never pitched or played for the Tigers. Jack threw his no-no against the White Sox in a 4-0 victory. Morris threw 14 of his 18 seasons in Detroit, then retired in 1994 as an Indian. As a Blue Jay in 1992, Jack went 21-6 in the season.

The others never pitched in their career. Nicknamed 'Rapid Robert', Feller was starting his fifth season in the majors and with the Indians. This opening day was the beginning of the 21-year old's Triple Crown season.

The other pitchers never threw for the Mets. George Thomas 'Tom Terrific' Seaver began his career as a Met in 1967, winning the Rookie of the Year award. In this particular game, Tom had struck out the last 9 batters in the game. He won the NL Cy Young in 1969, 1973, and 1975.

After 20 seasons, the right-hander struck out an amazing 3640 batters. His Hall of Fame induction was an easy one in 1992.
